Marathon gets a March 2026 launch – various editions unveiled

Bungie has officially locked in a release date for Marathon, confirming that the studio’s highly anticipated survival extraction shooter will arrive on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Landing on March 5th 2026, alongside the announcement, Bungie has lifted the lid on a brand-new gameplay trailer, revealed an extensive English-language voice cast, and opened pre-orders across multiple editions, including a premium Collector’s Edition.

Set on the long-abandoned colony of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon marks Bungie’s return to darker sci-fi territory, blending tense PvPvE gunplay with scavenging, survival, and long-term progression in a shared world that evolves season by season.

What Is Marathon All About?

At its core, Marathon is a survival extraction FPS where players take on the role of a Runner – a bio-cybernetic mercenary dropped onto a hostile world filled with rival players, AI enemies, and unpredictable environmental threats.

Whether deploying solo, as part of a duo or trio, or risking everything as a gearless Rook, every run is about balancing risk and reward. Loot is valuable, death is costly, and successful extractions fuel long-term progression across seasons.

Tau Ceti IV is a graveyard of abandoned research facilities, ruined settlements, and fortified security zones. Each area ramps up in difficulty, pushing players towards endgame content aboard the orbiting UESC Marathon itself, where raid-like encounters and high-stakes PvP await.

Marathon At A Glance

  • Release date: March 5th
  • Platforms: Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
  • Genre: Survival Extraction FPS
  • Full cross-play and cross-save supported
  • Seasonal progression with evolving world content
  • Solo, duo, and trio play supported

Bungie Reveals Marathon’s English Voice Cast

Bungie has confirmed an impressively stacked English-language voice cast for Marathon, featuring industry veterans from across games, film, and television. Among those lending their talents are Roger Clark, Jennifer English, Ben Starr, Neil Newbon, Erica Lindbeck, Elias Toufexis, Dave Fennoy, and many more.

Fully localised dialogue is planned for all supported languages, with additional voice casts to be revealed closer to launch. Bungie has also confirmed that the cast will expand over time as Marathon’s narrative continues to evolve.

Pre-Orders Now Live Across Multiple Editions

Players can pre-order Marathon now in Standard and Deluxe editions, both of which include full access to future gameplay updates as the year progresses.

  • Marathon Standard Edition – £34.99 – The Standard Edition includes the full game alongside a selection of cosmetic pre-order bonuses and themed Destiny 2 rewards for linked Bungie.net accounts.
  • Marathon Deluxe Edition – £49.99 – The Deluxe Edition builds on the Standard package with premium cosmetics, a Rewards Pass voucher, SILK tokens, and exclusive Runner shell styles, offering more customisation options from day one.
  • Marathon Collector’s Edition Details – For fans looking to go all-in, Bungie has also unveiled the Marathon Collector’s Edition, which bundles all Deluxe Edition digital content with a striking selection of physical items. Highlights include a 1/6th scale Thief Runner shell statue with LED lighting, a collectible WEAVEworm miniature, art postcards, an embroidered patch, and premium display packaging featuring environmental artwork from the game.

Is Marathon on Game Pass?

At launch, it’s not looking as if Marathon will launch on Game Pass, at least not Day One.

Of course, there’s a chance that the game will hit the subscription service at some point further down the line, yet for now, there is nothing confirmed.

Destiny 2 Crossover Rewards And Limited Edition Hardware

To celebrate Marathon’s launch, Destiny 2 players can claim themed in-game rewards, including weapon ornaments, shaders, and emotes inspired by Bungie’s new universe.

A New Sci-Fi Frontier For Bungie

With Marathon, Bungie is leaning fully into high-stakes survival gameplay while retaining the tight gunplay and world-building the studio is known for. Between its evolving narrative, faction-driven progression, and brutal extraction mechanics, Tau Ceti IV looks set to become one of 2026’s most talked-about battlegrounds.

Whether you’re in it for the loot, the lore, or the thrill of barely making it out alive, Marathon is shaping up to be a bold new chapter for Bungie when it launches this March.
