Just weeks after Marvel Rivals kicked off its SINS OF ALCHEMAX storyline with the arrival of Devil Dinosaur and a renewed competitive focus, the hit hero shooter is already preparing for its next major update. Season 8.5 launches today, introducing one of Marvel’s most iconic mutants, an enormous new game mode, community tournament support, and a summer-themed celebration packed with rewards.
Available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, Marvel Rivals continues to expand at a rapid pace, and Season 8.5 looks set to be one of the game’s most substantial mid-season updates yet.

Cyclops Takes Command Of The Battlefield
The headline addition for Season 8.5 is undoubtedly Cyclops, the legendary leader of the X-Men.
Joining the roster as a Duelist, Scott Summers brings his trademark optic blasts into the ever-growing Marvel Rivals hero lineup. His abilities are designed around precision, positioning, and overwhelming firepower, allowing players to fire devastating energy beams directly at opponents or use ricochets to catch enemies attempting to stay safely behind cover.
Cyclops also gains mobility from the recoil generated by his attacks, enabling skilled players to reposition quickly and gain advantageous angles during combat.
His Ultimate Ability promises to be one of the most visually spectacular attacks in the game, temporarily removing his power inhibitors and unleashing a catastrophic optic beam capable of tearing through anything unfortunate enough to be standing in its path.
Bounty Annihilation Expands The Scale Of Marvel Rivals
Season 8.5 isn’t simply adding another hero.
NetEase Games is introducing Bounty Annihilation, a brand-new 18v18 mode that dramatically increases the scale of battles compared to the traditional Marvel Rivals experience.
To support the larger player count, the update also introduces K’un-Lun: Shenloong Arena, a new battleground specifically built for the chaos and spectacle of these massive encounters.
The new mode should offer a very different pace to standard matches, creating larger team fights and even more opportunities for the game’s growing roster of heroes and villains to unleash their powers simultaneously.
Summer Festival Brings Rewards, Costumes And A New Social Space
The celebrations continue beyond the launch of Season 8.5.
Following the June 18th update, players will gain access to the Summer Festival event, which includes a range of activities and login rewards capable of earning up to 2,500 Units. A fresh selection of Swimsuit Special costumes will also be introduced, expanding on one of the community’s most requested cosmetic themes.
Alongside those additions comes Hellfire Bay Beach, a new social hub where players can spend time outside of combat. The area will allow fans to explore as their favourite heroes, take screenshots, socialise with other players, and enjoy a more relaxed side of the Marvel universe.
Meanwhile, the returning 616 Day Vault will run from June 12th until June 26th, bringing back a collection of limited-time content originally released between July and September 2025, including previous summer-themed cosmetics and event rewards.
Community Tournaments Get Official Support
Perhaps one of the most significant announcements for the game’s long-term future is the launch of an official third-party tournament programme.
For the first time, Marvel Rivals will allow community organisers, content creators, esports groups, and local event hosts to run their own sanctioned competitions through a structured framework provided by the development team.
The initiative aims to make it easier for players to organise everything from small community brackets to larger-scale competitive events, further strengthening the growing competitive ecosystem that Season 8 began to emphasise.
Another Major Step Forward For Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals has shown little sign of slowing down since launch, and Season 8.5 demonstrates just how ambitious NetEase’s roadmap remains. Between the arrival of Cyclops, the introduction of large-scale 18v18 battles, fresh seasonal activities, and expanded support for community competitions, players have plenty to look forward to throughout the coming weeks.
With SINS OF ALCHEMAX continuing to evolve and the roster growing ever larger, June is shaping up to be another busy month for Marvel Rivals fans.
