Things are getting far more chaotic in Marvel Rivals as Season 8: SINS OF ALCHEMAX officially rolls out across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC today, bringing a new playable hero, fresh maps, esports updates and a sizeable batch of gameplay improvements.
Following on from the additions introduced in Season 7 and Season 7.5, NetEase Games is continuing to rapidly expand the hero shooter with another content-heavy update, and this time it is Devil Dinosaur stomping directly into the spotlight.
The gigantic fan-favourite joins Marvel Rivals as a Vanguard hero, while players can also jump into a new Doom Match battleground, unlock cosmetic rewards and prepare for the next stage of the game’s growing esports scene.

Devil Dinosaur Crashes Into The Frontline
Season 8’s biggest addition is undoubtedly Devil Dinosaur, who arrives as one of the most physically imposing characters the game has seen so far.
Built as a frontline Vanguard, Devil Dinosaur focuses heavily on brute force, crowd control and disruption. His attacks inflict bleeding effects on enemies, while his forcefield shield allows him to stay aggressive deep into combat situations.
Things become even messier once his Ultimate Ability activates, transforming him into a near unstoppable charging monster capable of smashing straight through enemy formations. From everything shown so far, Devil Dinosaur looks perfectly suited for players who prefer aggressive tank-style gameplay rather than defensive support roles.
Alchemax Headquarters Expands The Chaos
While Devil Dinosaur headlines the update, the new Alchemax Headquarters Doom Match map could end up becoming one of Season 8’s biggest talking points.
Launching on May 28th, the map sends players into the headquarters of Alchemax as they attempt to rescue Cyclops and Moon Girl from danger. Like previous Marvel Rivals arenas, destructible environments and verticality once again appear to play a huge role in how matches unfold.
Competitive players will also receive another battleground in the form of New York: Lower Manhattan, which arrives as part of the Ignite esports Stage 1 update.
Marvel Rivals Ignite Begins Properly
Marvel Rivals continues pushing into esports territory too, and Season 8 marks the official start of Ignite Stage 1 competition.
After a preseason filled with surprise results and rapidly shifting team rankings, Stage 1 begins on May 21st with a total prize pool of $650,000. The competition will run across two phases, with Group Stages taking place between May 21st and June 7th, before Playoffs arrive from June 25 through July 5th.
Considering how quickly Marvel Rivals has built momentum since launch, it is no surprise to see NetEase investing heavily into the competitive side of the game already.
More Costumes, Better Storage Management
Outside of gameplay additions, Season 8 also introduces another wave of accessories for characters including Devil Dinosaur, The Thing, Black Widow, Angela, Hela, Namor and The Punisher.
PC players also benefit from a useful storage optimisation update, as the High-Resolution Texture Pack is now separated into its own standalone DLC. That means players short on SSD space can remove it and recover roughly 35GB of storage.
Meanwhile, verified college students can now access a new rotation of 10 exclusive costumes and MVP items through the College Student Perks programme.
Marvel Rivals Keeps Building Momentum
It is impressive just how quickly Marvel Rivals continues evolving. Between regular hero additions, new maps and ongoing competitive support, the game already feels far larger than it did at launch.
Season 7 introduced White Fox and fresh battlegrounds, while Season 7.5 added Black Cat alongside the Blood Hunt PvE mode. Season 8 now pushes things further with one of Marvel’s most unusual playable characters to date.
