Guitar Hero and Rock Band have slowly been moved to one side, just as a new type of rhythm action game comes to the fore. On the back of seeing the rather brilliant Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master wow the Game Pass crowds, up steps Beat Souls to battle for the musical masterpiece crown.
Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, Beat Souls is the latest from Eastasiasoft, but a far cry from the usual platformers and visual novels that the publisher is known for.
This one comes in at £8.39 and throws players into the most vibrant of settings, as they are left to hone their skills across a series of rhythm action segments, avoiding obstacles as per an endless runner, and racking up combos in the process. With a super colourful visual style, some cracking tunes and plenty of songs to play through, Beat Souls could well be a bit of a delight.
When you include a variety of difficulties – some of which we believe are utterly impossible for a single human to complete – and the need to become one with the music on hand, if you’ve been taken by what Taiko no Tatsujin provided and want more of the same, this is it.
We’ve been hands on with Beat Souls for a little while already, well enough to be able to provide some thoughts on the matter. And that’s where our full review comes in, detailing what is good (lots) and what is bad (not that much tbh) in how Beat Souls plays on Xbox Series X|S. Give that review a read!
When you’re sold, head over to the Xbox Store and nail the download you need. Beat Souls is playable on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with the latter seeing it fully optimised for the next gen. It’s on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch too.
