Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment recently announced Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will be coming to Xbox One and 360 as well as other platforms. Other than it being set in the Lord of the Rings universe, I imagine most of us won’t know much else… until you’ve read these new details!
Set in an open-world Mordor, somewhere between the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy, you will be playing as a recently killed ranger named Talion in a tale of potential vengeance over the murder of his family. He is brought back to life by a mysterious Spirit and now possesses Wraith abilities to use against enemies to dominate in an always adapting world.
This video game will mark the debut of the Nemesis System which will allow dynamic next-gen mechanics to shape enemy relationships based on your player’s actions. What I gather from this is that enemies will remember how you downed their counterparts earlier on and react to this. It is also apparent that you may have to try new techniques and tactics to defeat different enemies. To aid with this you are encouraged to advance skills, weapons and abilities through a system of rune rewards.
As you will, the walkthrough video below goes over a few of the aforementioned ideas such as the Nemesis System and Wraith abilities. When seen in practice it certainly adds a bit of smart thinking to the proceedings by using enemies to help with your own battles. It certainly has the potential to be the best LOTR universe set game so far, roll on the release!
