Monster the dating scene with Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim

kaichu the kaiju dating sim

Dating sims have really picked up in recent years, spanning various genres and ideas, spreading themselves far and wide. But none have ever focused on a bunch of gigantic monsters looking for love. Not until now anyways. Not until Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim.

We’re well used to weird and wonderful dating sims – none more so than that of Mr. Massagy: Mayo Edition, a game in which you get to date a jar of mayo – but we think that Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim comes close to that strangeness.

It comes about via the Top Hat Studios team as they publish the genius creation of the developer, Squiddershins (we should have suspected that a dev with that name would know how to create some madness) to deliver a new dating sim option for players on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch or PC.

Available to purchase and download right now, costing around $9.99USD /ÂŁ7.19/8.19EUR and playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam or Epic, Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim should be seen as a pretty light-hearted affair, one that is ‘Saturday morning cartoon’ styled as you look to help a gigantic monster find some love.

That monster is Gigachu, a radioactive dino who travels the globe in search of finding some hot love. Thankfully that globe is frequented by six other Kaiju and so it’ll be up to you to help Gigachu work the magic needed in order to nail a date. With commentary provided by a couple of news anchors and a host of likes and dislikes to get your head around, Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim should have enough about it to see you through a few evenings of joy.

The keyest of key features include:

  • Piece up your love story by flirting with one of the six kaiju available. Each character has their own storyline, personality, tastes, and conflicts, so there are no two routes alike!
  • Travel to some of the 24 locations based on real-world places with your special someone and smash monuments together. Kaichu is a nonlinear game, so you basically can explore the map in the order of your choice.
  • Test your compatibility through innovative quiz gameplay based on each kaiju’s personality and preferences. As Gigachu, decide whether to be true to yourself or choose the answers that make you look best to the kaiju of your interest — it’s up to you.
  • Fall before the beautiful hand-crafted backgrounds and lovely kaiju created by Jason Boyer in the style of saturday morning cartoons.
  • Move your body to the rhythm of Kaichu’s original soundtrack by Clark Aboud, who was behind the OST of Kind Words and Slay The Spire.

Our full review of Kaichu – The Kaiju Dating Sim is up, live and ready to deliver the push you need to ensure a purchase goes in. Give it a read whilst you await your Xbox Store download on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. It’s also available on PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Game Description:

Kaichu is a dating sim about kaiju! You play the role of Gigachu, a gigantic romantic looking for love. Meet six other eligible kaiju and visit twenty-four famous landmarks where Gigachu will answer challenging compatibility questions to decide the fate of your relationship.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
