The hellish express just got a fresh shipment of high-stakes challenges, and it’s not slowing down.

The critically acclaimed deckbuilder, Monster Train 2, is receiving its second major free post-launch content update today. Titled Echoes From the Void, this new update lands on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, adding a wealth of new, strategy-altering ways to battle the forces of Heaven.

This update continues the game’s fantastic post-launch support, daring strategists to devise fresh tactics for new boss encounters, a slate of new Dimensional challenges, and over 50 new gameplay-warping mutators.

Another Cavalcade of Fresh Ideas

We’ve been all aboard the Monster Train 2 hype train since it first launched, and it’s easy to see why. In our 4.5/5 review, we called it a “very addictive experience” that “takes its winning deck-building formula and enhances it with a cavalcade of fresh ideas.

Developer Shiny Shoe is clearly committed to that philosophy. We just saw the Lost Arsenal update add a host of new cards to the deck, and this new Echoes From the Void update continues that fantastic trend of robust, free support, making an already brilliant game even better.

What’s Emerging from the Void?

This new update is all about adding new layers of challenge and replayability to the game’s addictive roguelike loop.

The battlefield is shifting. This update dares you to devise fresh tactics for two all-new boss encounters, adding new climactic fights to your runs. Even more impactful is the addition of more than 50 new mutators, which will alter the game’s rules in inventive and exciting ways, ensuring no two runs ever feel the same.

To help you in your fight, the update also introduces a slate of new clanless artifacts, adding even more versatility to your deck-building. New Celestial Alcove events will also begin appearing, offering you powerful new rewards to chase as you guide your demonic forces up the three-floor battlefield.

The Perfect Time to Climb Aboard?

For those who haven’t yet punched their ticket, Monster Train 2 is a unique deckbuilder set on a train to Hell, featuring an innovative vertical three-floor battle system. This new update is the perfect excuse to return to one of the year’s best games – or to start your journey for the first time.

If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, this news is even better. The base game is available on the service, meaning you get access to this incredible, ever-expanding deckbuilder and both of its massive free content updates at no extra cost.

The Journey Doesn’t End Here

Shiny Shoe has also charted a course for Monster Train 2 all the way into early 2026. This means that Echoes From the Void isn’t the last stop. The hellishly cool slate of additions on deck includes even more new bosses, new artifacts, and a brand-new playable clan still to come.

The train to Hell is always accepting new passengers, and now it’s more packed with chaotic, strategic possibilities than ever before. With new bosses to conquer, 50+ new ways to have your run turned upside down, and the promise of even more content on the horizon, Monster Train 2 has once again solidified its title as one of the best deckbuilders on the planet. The update is free and live today.

The usual digital stores (like the Xbox Store) will sort you out if you need a download of the game.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
