Morgan Metal Detective
Morgan Metal Detective – out now

Cosy games – as we are all familiar with by now – certainly do not have to be building or management games, as the likes of PowerWash Simulator indicate.

Morgan: Metal Detective throws players into a colourful world where our protagonist Morgan must investigate hidden treasures, equipped primarily with her trusty metal detector.

A Voice from the Stars

Now available on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC, the biggest feather in the cap of Morgan: Metal Detective is undoubtedly the voice of Morgan herself. The BAFTA-nominated Charlotte McBurney was appointed for the task, hot off her voicing Amicia – the hero from the A Plague Tale series.

In this serene first-person adventure, you’ll search the island of Glasden – in the heart of Cornwall – using your recently passed Grandpa’s beloved metal detector. You’ll need to make use of the metal detector to unearth a number of relics and artefacts, either exchanging them with local residents for information about Glasden, or credits that you can trade for stickers and film for your photo camera.

It’s all designed to be very ‘cosy’ (there’s that word again!) indeed. Co-Director and Game Designer at developers Studio Morgan, Harvey Hayman, stated that:

“Morgan: Metal Detective is designed to be like an old jumper – warm, comforting and above all, cosy… We wanted to express the feeling of childish, care-free exploration; the Cornish island of Glasden is your playground to explore and re-discover lost treasures with your trusty old metal detector. We hope that we have succeeded in creating a wholesome world to relax in.”

Hours of Fun to be Had!

From a gameplay sense, Morgan: Metal Detective aims to capture the fun behind not quite knowing what you’ll unearth next – what is behind the bleeps and bloops of your detection device?

The strikingly colourful artstyle of Morgan: Metal Detective only adds to this playful feel – Holly Hudson is Co-Director and Art Director at Studio Morgan:

“Morgan: Metal Detective is a cosy love-letter to childhood Cornish holidays… Set against the backdrop of a hand-crafted 3D island, it invites players to embark on an adventure filled with the innocent thrill of exploration, armed with a trusty metal detector and shovel. This game blends a simple yet striking environment with vibrant 2D details, mirroring Morgan’s inquisitive perspective of the island and its inhabitants.”

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
