Mouthole – out now on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

There are strange games, and then there are games that ask you to navigate your quotidian existence by deciding whether to brush your teeth or to dream, so you can crawl into your own mouth to explore ten surreal worlds within. Yeah, that’s MOUTHOLE.

An utterly bizarre adventure, MOUTHOLE, has launched today. This unique title from developer Anything Nose Productions and the purveyors of the peculiar, publisher Sometimes You, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch for £8.39.

Prepare to solve puzzles, unravel mysteries, and keep an eye on the time to ensure you make the most of your week in a game that we’ve already had the pleasure of calling “strange, different, and utterly crazy.”

Your Mundane (and Not-So-Mundane) Life

The core of MOUTHOLE is a week in the psychospherical house of your character. You have a limited amount of time, and you must decide what to spend it on. You can work on your fitness, surf the web, invest in a surprisingly realistic stock market, or try to keep your life together.

You’ll also get to know a small cast of characters and can alter their lives with your actions.

Alternatively, you can choose to dream, which will allow you to delve deeper into the mysteries that lie inside… your MOUTH. Here, you will uncover the cavernous avenues that lie dormant within, accessing 10 surreal and distinct worlds.

You’ll need to solve puzzles, discover strange new pathways, and occasionally run for your life as your HOUSE unfolds itself and your gums begin to change.

A Strange, Different, and Highly Memorable Farewell

We’ve already had a poke around inside this particular MOUTHOLE, and we came away impressed by its sheer audacity. In our 3.5/5 review of MOUTHOLE, we said:

MOUTHOLE is strange, different, utterly crazy, but highly memorable.

Sadly, this memorable experience also serves as a farewell. The talented and envelope-pushing developer, Anything Nose Productions, has ceased operations and is no longer making games. This makes MOUTHOLE their final, brilliant, and bizarre contribution to the gaming world.

Please note – MOUTHOLE on Xbox does not support Xbox Play Anywhere.

Your Dental Record

Here’s what you can expect from this unique adventure:

  • 11 Different Endings.
  • An Uncompromising Lack of Lighting.
  • Approximately 45 Minutes of Tooth-Shattering Music.
  • Over 1000 Lines of Dialogue.
  • A Raytraced Snail Graphic.
  • A Revolutionary Hat System.
  • Extreme Mirror.
  • Playable Instruments.

An utterly unique and highly memorable experience is waiting. If you’re a fan of games that push the envelope, try new ideas, and aren’t afraid to get really, really weird, then MOUTHOLE is ready for you on the Xbox Store right now. You’ll find it Optimised for Series X|S, or playable on Xbox One.

Alternatively, there are PlayStation and Nintendo Switch editions too.

Whatever, you can be sure of one thing – It’s time to open wide.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
