For those of you travelling down to EGX London (from the 22nd September – 25th September), make sure to head over to the SquadBlast booth to try out this intricate multiplayer side-scrolling tactical shooter. Do so and you’ll get to learn straight from the devs how this title will be vying for your full attention ahead of a full launch.

SquadBlast is, at its core, a class-based shooter, seeing you initially pick from one of many heroes, each with their own unique abilities, and battling it out in the 2D space with pretty much every weapon you could think of. Assault rifle? Yep. RPG? Well, of course. Massive weapons of mass destruction? SquadBlast will have it, and much more more, even with a ton of melee weapons for the player, if you prefer a more up-close and personal style.

Despite cartoony and colourful visuals, which at first glance remind one of the recently released Multiversus, SquadBlast is set in a dystopian near-future – 2041, to be precise. It’s a classic ‘taking back control from the evil corporations’ type thread running through the action. In fact, founder of the development team UltraHorse, Anatolijs Ropotovs, had this to say on that very matter:

“The SquadBlast story extrapolates existing societal trends two decades into the future. We have created a world that feels realistic and grounded, with a dash of future fantasy that provides the flexibility for the gameplay and narrative to be wild and unpredictable.”

As with all good multiplayer shooters, the main bulk of your time will be spent at the heart of the action, taking part in classic modes such as TDM, Capture the Point, and a 5v5 Payload map, championed by the Overwatch series.

SquadBlast will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC (Steam) in the coming future. As mentioned at the top of this piece, players can now jump into the game at the playtest stage. This can be done at EGX London, or if you are on PC, players can sign up for the European playtest via the official website.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
