Not Your Average Diving Trip
The premise is wonderfully grim. Abandoned underwater laboratories are littered with corpses, and your job is to recover them, transport them back to your submarine and eliminate every trace of the experiments. Simple enough… until you realise the labs aren’t empty.
Oxygen is limited, visibility is poor, strange creatures are stalking the wrecks, and things have a nasty habit of going from organised to complete panic in a matter of seconds. Even if your mission starts with everyone working together, don’t be surprised if it quickly turns into a frantic scramble back to the submarine.
You can tackle missions solo, pair up in a compact submarine, sail with four players aboard the standard vessel or recruit a full team of up to eight divers for the biggest expeditions. Larger crews naturally make communication even more important, particularly when someone is piloting the submarine while others rely on sonar stations to navigate the pitch-black ocean.
Adding to the tension is proximity voice chat and immersive 3D audio, making every distant shout for help feel just that little bit more unsettling.
Upgrade Your Chances Of Survival
If you manage to return alive, your rewards can be spent on new gadgets, upgrades and submarine modules to improve future dives.
Useful equipment ranges from grappling hooks and underwater scooters to body part detectors and enhanced vision, while the submarine itself can be upgraded to venture deeper beneath the ocean and carry more equipment. There’s also a selection of unlockable diving suits, letting you personalise your look between increasingly dangerous expeditions.
Sink Or Swim?
Murky Divers takes cooperative horror in a different direction, swapping haunted houses for abandoned laboratories at the bottom of the sea and giving players a job that’s equal parts disturbing and darkly funny.
With procedurally generated wrecks ensuring no two dives play out exactly the same way, there’s plenty of replayability waiting beneath the surface – assuming you can overcome the creatures, the pressure… and perhaps your own fear of deep water.
