What exactly is N.E.R.D? Well…

Available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam and GOG for ÂŁ6.69, this latest release from Forever Entertainment drops players into a tense escape-room-style horror experience where survival depends on solving puzzles, avoiding deadly traps and uncovering the truth behind a nightmare that is rapidly spiralling out of control.

And judging by the setup, it sounds like someone has been watching a few horror films along the way.

Escape The Trap – If You Can

The premise is simple enough. Your partner has been kidnapped. You’re next. Before long, you find yourself trapped by a masked captor and forced into a deadly game of survival.

From there, N.E.R.D places the focus on puzzle solving, exploration and escape, as players move through a series of dangerous rooms packed with traps, secrets and increasingly uncomfortable revelations.

The game features three distinct levels, each filled with puzzles designed to test observation and logic while the story slowly reveals what’s really happening behind the scenes.

A Horror Story Told Through Real Actors

One thing that helps N.E.R.D stand out from the crowd is its use of live-action performances. You see, rather than relying entirely on traditional game visuals, Forever Entertainment has built the experience around a cinematic presentation featuring real actors, giving the game a distinctly old-school FMV feel.

Whether that approach adds tension or a little campy charm remains to be seen, but it certainly helps N.E.R.D carve out its own identity in a crowded indie horror market. We’ll find out how it works in review soon.

There’s also a dedicated Time Pressure Mode for those who want to crank the stress levels up even further, forcing players to think fast while solving puzzles under additional pressure.

A Small Horror Experience With Big Escape Room Energy

At ÂŁ6.69, N.E.R.D isn’t pretending to be a massive blockbuster horror release. However, the escape-room influence is clear throughout, and for players who enjoy untangling clues while trying to stay one step ahead of danger, there could be something worth discovering here.

The big question, of course, is whether you’ll uncover the truth before the masked maniac catches up with you.

N.E.R.D is available right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam and GOG for ÂŁ6.69 (at least if you pick it up from the Xbox Store).

We’ll see whether its blend of puzzles, horror and live-action storytelling is clever enough to escape the growing crowd of indie thrillers once we’ve spent some time trapped inside its deadly rooms.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
