The fight for colonial supremacy in the 17th Century, turn-based sea battles of trading sim Port Royale 4 may still be a few months away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t gain an insight into what to expect. Fortunately for us, Kalypso Media have now released the ‘Explorer’ video to peruse and take a look at the vast game world within.
Measuring a whopping 12 million square kilometres, Port Royale 4’s playable area spans from the Florida Keys in the USA to the northern tip of South America. This gives players the opportunity to explore a huge world as they commandeer settlements that are encountered along the way; no matter whether they are representing Spain, England, France or the Netherlands. Port Royale 4’s ‘Explorer video’ shows off this massive environment really well, clocking in at over 30 minutes.
The video follows the journey of a vessel as it travels from one side of the map to the other. The tone is best described as meditative, encouraging you to simply sit back, relax and lose yourself to the game’s pristine Caribbean scenery and original orchestral score.
Arriving alongside the ‘Explorer’ video is a beta development roadmap offering an overview of features and improvements still to come during its current beta. It’s worth noting that the England and the Netherlands Nation updates are inbound in the lead up to launch for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on 25th September 2020. The Port Royale 4 beta is available now to those pre-purchasing via the Kalypso Store.
