We were rather taken by The Gunk when it releases on Xbox and PC – and through Game Pass – back in December 2021. Today though that already brilliant game gets enhanced, with the opportunity to take stunning shots through the new Photo Mode.
Available to play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, through Game Pass should you so wish, we praised The Gunk for being one of the best looking Xbox games ever. You can now show off those visuals in style, with the newly introduced Photo Mode, which is rolling out for free right now.
The free new Photo Mode for Thunderful’s sci-fi exploration title with a unique gunk-sucking mechanic, puts a powerful suite of photography tools in players’ hands, helping them capture stunning shots of the game’s lush alien world. This new photo mode is a perfect way of delving deeper into the incredible vistas the game offers, empowering player creativity to offer a jaw-dropping new perspective on The Gunk’s enticing environment of alien fauna and flora.
The new Photo Mode is deep, including with it a host of editing possibilities. Your post-processing photo editing options include the ability to adjust depth of field, exposure, field of view, add filters like “noir”, “sepia” and “cartoon”, and more. It also allows you to adjust the pose of protagonist Rani and even change her facial expressions to add personality to your snaps and perfectly match the tone you are aiming for with each snap you take.
On the face of it, a Photo Mode for one of the Xbox’s best looking games is a bit of a no-brainer, but alongside it, the update brings a number of features and fixes to improve The Gunk even more. These have come about based on feedback from the community. including improved resolution settings, 4K monitors being better supported, the ability to disable motion blur, and quality of life changes such as a setting to automatically enter aim mode and mouse control improvements.
The Gunk is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via the Xbox Store. With it free for Game Pass subscribers, picking it up and making the most of the new Photo Mode should be something you’re actioning sooner rather than later.
