There are many cyberpunk games worth worrying about this year, but thanks to a new trailer, Ghostrunner looks to be one that should be right up there with the best of them.

Recently featured on our ‘10 of the most exciting indie games coming soon to Xbox One’ article, a first-person cyberpunk parkour action game from developers 3D Realms, One More Level Games, Slipgate Ironworks and publishers All in! Games and 505 Games (yep, that’s a lot of teams working on it!), Ghostrunner is set to launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC later this year. And if you have any interest in the genre, then the latest trailer to reveal a little insight really should be taken in.

In Ghostrunner you will find the chance to soar from rooftop to rooftop in Dharma City, an urban metropolis above the lowest level of Dharma Tower, the industrial district known as the Base. It is here where you’ll enter the Cybervoid, a visual representation of Dharma Tower’s internal network, letting you hack systems and learn new abilities in a digital dojo.

By ascending Dharma Tower – with a blade in hand – you’ll be able to discover the truth behind humanity’s downfall. The new trailer demonstrates some of the titular Ghostrunner’s abilities learned in the Cybervoid: send attackers to their doom with concentrated Tempest air-blasts, or use Blink for a shield-shattering fatal strike.

Further, you’ll be found evading dangerous Drones patrolling the neon-hued Dharma City, or catching them unaware by leaping onto them and gliding across rooftops. Just be aware, you’ll need to stay vigilant and vertical at all times, if only to avoid the wide energy beams blasted by Wavers, deadly bipedal robots.

The trailer below will happily showcase these elements, but in terms of new enemies and abilities, expect some of the following:

  • Dive behind shielded Enforcers and strike them from behind
  • Mount robotic Drones to glide across chasms, using the explosion of their crash to take out other attackers
  • Leap and take advantage of the Ghostrunner’s vertical prowess to avoid the wide energy beams shot by Wavers, destructive bipedal robots
  • Drive back attackers, sending them to their doom with the Tempest ability
  • Unleash shield-shattering killing blows in an instant with the Blink ability

Tempted by what Ghostrunner brings? Can’t wait for the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and need something else to fill the gap? Whilst we don’t have a release date yet for Ghostrunner, it should well be launching on Xbox One, PS4 and PC later this year. Keep an eye out for it.
