Isonzo

When Blackmill Games and M2H came together to create the WW1 Game Series, they promised titles that would be able to deliver the harrowing nature of war; games that were as authentic as they come. The first title in the series was that of Verdun, a game which was hotly followed by Tannenberg. Now though comes the announcement of Isonzo – and it’ll be bringing First World War Alpine warfare to the Xbox, PlayStation and PC masses.

If you’re looking to experience some authentic mountain warfare on the Italian front, then Isonzo is going to be the experience you are looking to take in. Thrusting players onto the southern front of the Great War, you’ll get to take in the clash between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The game itself has been inspired by the two year battle that took place in and around the Isonzo river as we get the chance to traverse battlefields that are as beautiful as they are deadly.

Rugged valleys, scenic peaks, idyllic towns and the general landscape of northern Italy await those spending time in Isonzo as M2H and Blackmill come together once more to build on the games that have come before it.

It’ll come with a new Offensive game mode too, putting players right in the middle of the most key offensives on the Italian front, taking in high-altitude combat in the Alps, and the most hardened of fights around the river.

Developer and M2H co founder Matt Hergaarden said:“The Italian Front was the perfect opportunity for us
to elevate the WW1 Game Series, both figuratively and literally! Alpine warfare in Isonzo brings lots of fresh game mechanics to the series, along with the all new Italian army, facing off against Austria-Hungary. We can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been working on – there are many exciting reveals on the way!”

Whilst Verdun kicked it all off, and Tannenberg focused on large-scale warfare, Isonzo will attempt to combine the two – taking the intensity of the first game and mixing it with the ambition and scale of Tannenberg.

As you would expect to hear from the WW1 Game Series, everything included will be accurately modelled right down to the finest detail. Weapons, uniforms and sound effects will immerse you into the battlefields as you get the chance to react to conditions by choosing your own specific role and loadout carefully. There will be a job for everyone too as The Great War comes to life once more.

If you’re interested in what Isonzo brings then you’ll find the Steam store page up and live right this minute. Xbox (Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S) and PlayStation (PS4, PS5) pages will be along in the near future.

We’ll be sure to bring you further developmental progress as and when we can. For now though you really should be found taking in that Isonzo announcement trailer.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
