It may not quite have had the same effect on gamers as the original and Borderlands 2 did, but if you’re in the market for a stupidly fun, massively intense looter-shooter then Borderlands 3 hits the mark. And should you now be the proud owner of a shiny new Xbox Series X|S or PS5, you’ll fast be discovering that 2K and Gearbox Entertainment are taking Borderlands 3 to the next level.Â
Re-launching the game on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 (upon console launch), Borderlands 3 on the next-gen comes with a whole host of new ideas and technology. Fully optimized to take advantage of the additional, bringing with it a new level of graphical fidelity to the Borderlands universe, you’ll find that the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions of Borderlands 3 run at up to 60 frames per second in 4K resolution during single-player and online co-op, and all next-gen consoles support three- and four-player split-screen for local multiplayer. Seems like a perfect time to check out the very best Borderlands NPCs once more!
Further to that and vertical split-screen for two-player local co-op is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S and will be available on PlayStation 5 as soon as the console launches.
Should you already own Borderlands 3, you’ll find the next-gen upgrade taking place for free, letting you also port over all add-on content and save files within the same family too.Â
But that’s not all and to mark the more to the next-gen we also see the addition of multiple other Borderlands 3 offerings, with the Season Pass 2 coming into play. This in itself contains two new content add-ons – the Designer’s Cut and the Director’s Cut – with the latter of those coming a little further down the line.Â
For now, the Designer’s Cut brings into play a new mode – Arm’s Race – alongside an additional skill tree for each and every Vault Hunter. Arm’s Race is a roguelike experience that’s fast-paced, challenging, and consistently remixed by randomized elements, putting the focus squarely on guns and gameplay. This will see every loot drop meaningful and exciting.Â
Still the add-ons come and 2K and Gearbox are also dropping in four new Multiverse Final Form Cosmetic Packs. These are priced at £7.99 each, or are included in that Season Pass 2, with each one delivering four new character models, one for each Vault Hunter, based on the idea that in an alternate universe where they never become the Vault Hunters we know and love. These can be mixed and matched with other bodies and heads too.Â
So how do you get access to all this? Well, as mentioned the next-gen upgrade comes for free but you’ll also find them in the Borderlands 3 Next-Level Edition for £64.99, and the Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition for £84.99 which also include the new Season Pass. The Season Pass itself will set you back £24.99 should you prefer the more individual route.Â
