Up Next – A look at the Xbox One and Xbox 360 games out in February 2017

-

February is here and the new game releases are starting to ramp up in regularity. After a quiet couple of months, there are some exciting titles lined up for a February 2017 retail release, with all of the following due to hit a store near you soon.

LEGO Worlds

If you think about it, Minecraft is quite closely based around the idea of LEGO – build whatever you want in a very simple but effective way. So, to encourage our imagination to come out, soon us gamers will be treated to a sandbox adventure where the entire world is made out of the colourful bricks we all know and love, with the primary objective of the game is to make whatever you want to.

Any brick you encounter in LEGO Worlds will be yours to use in a simple brick system that will see you laying down brick after brick, in an audacious attempt to construct a huge castle complete with gothic gargoyles… but we all know what we picture in our heads will definitely not be what is on screen!

Why Should You Buy It? LEGO Worlds is yours to play with, as the ultimate title to let your imagination run free and express yourself through the media of the little bricks we have become accustomed to.

Torment: Tides of Numenera

torment

Continuing the legacy of Planescape: Torment released back in 1999, Torment: Tides of Numenera is an action RPG set in a world where civilisation has become highly advanced. However, the things on everyone’s mind this time round are ancient, powerful artifacts known as the Numenera.

[amazon_link asins=’B01MZ2F9AS’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’5e996799-eac4-11e6-87a4-8d88514c5f8b’]

The player will have to explore some crazy lands and encounter some interesting characters along their journey. T:TON makes you play as a human who can cheat death, but with this amazing ability, it brings with it some reflection on yourself – the game will judge you every step of the way, and force you to think hard about the main question posed to you throughout the game – What does one life matter?

Why Should You Buy It? From the sounds of things, Torment: Tides of Numenera has one of the most interesting plots around at the moment and so if you want some mind-boggling storytelling, coupled with some fantasy RPG gameplay, Torment: Tides of Numenera may well be your game. Make sure you check out our hands-on preview too.

Sniper Elite 4

sniper elite 4 1

Quite possibly the main draw of the Sniper Elite series is the splendidly glory angle we get from getting a kill, seeing the camera pan round your unfortunate victim as the bullet pierces every vital organ and bone possible in disgustingly meticulous detail. But aside from this, the Sniper Elite series treats gamers to some of the most fun, but complicated, sniping on console. After every kill, you might have to run and relocate as the whole Nazi army comes down on your last known location.

[amazon_link asins=’B01M16SSER’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’dec0b739-eac4-11e6-afe7-fdf6582d70c4′]

In Sniper Elite 4, you play as Karl Fairburne, a sniper who, alongside his Italian Resistance comrades, must crush the war opposition in Italy and overcome the fascist dictators set up in the country – with the whole outcome of World War Two resting on your shoulders. No pressure then.

SE4 will have you going from vantage point to vantage point across nonlinear maps many times the size of those found in the previous entry in the series, picking off enemies and stealthing around trying to achieve your objectives.

Why Should You Buy It? Either playing in single player or with a coop buddy along for the ride, Sniper Elite 4 is the 2017 game for all gamers who think they have have the stealth skills to become the ultimate sniping threat.

For Honor

While it may seem like your standard hack and slash from afar, For Honor is a game that will confuse you beyond belief at first, as you try to get your head around its unique combat system which is in place to give you a good feel for your weapon.

When approaching an enemy that isn’t just the usual minnow, you will have three stances to pick from, in order to arrange your weapon in a particular direction, and depending on what stance the enemy has picked, you will either block its attack or take the hit and lose health. This system applies to when you are attacking as well.

Essentially, For Honor’s combat system is one big game of rock, paper, scissors, but while you are in the heat of a huge battle you will have to constantly be having to change your approach, or things will go very badly very quickly.

Aside from combat, For Honor will give you the choice of playing as a samurai, knight or viking – each coming with four classes to suit your playing style from hulking brute to slight but quick assassin. As you progress through the level, slashing through any enemy standing in your way, you will quickly accumulate points that will allow you to deploy one of your powers – from calling in a barrage of arrows to healing yourself to get over the line and defeat some of the trickier enemies.

The online multiplayer side of For Honor will pit a maximum of four against four to fight it out using the previously mentioned combat system. Whilst modes include your run of the mill hardpoint and team death match, also included are tense two vs two battles and a duel mode to really test your skill to the max.

Why Should You Buy It? For Honor is definitely a game that has never been attempted before, mixing different eras of time and including a unique combat system that will test you like nothing has before.

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier

twd 3 3

The third season of the emotionally harrowing, scarily saddening, episodic point and click adventure The Walking Dead has already hit consoles, PC and mobile platforms digitally, but now it arrives in physical disc form.

[amazon_link asins=’B01LWJMK8V’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’0eb9e71e-eac5-11e6-8d1c-6d4dbf90144e’]

A New Frontier follows the story of Javier, a man desperately trying to protect his family from the undead, while also giving the player control of series-veteran and fan-favourite Clementine, the now all grown up teenager trying to protect herself. It’ll be up to you, as the player, to uncovering their deepest secrets relating to the plot along the way.

Why Should You Buy It? Set in the most outbreak ravished world Telltale has created, expect to be sitting on the edge of your seat with game-making decisions around every corner, as you continue the story that has gripped people for many years.

Halo Wars 2

Halo Wars 2 MP

Every now and then a spin-off of a popular series comes to the forefront of consoles but fails to meet the hype that the main series conjured.

However Halo Wars 2 is nothing but, with the original having gamers throw as many hours into the tactical, RTS fighter as they would with the main series.

[amazon_link asins=’B01GVMVYNC,B01NCIJX76′ template=’ProductGrid’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’1f8a8f41-eac5-11e6-94ce-4988d4a3409f’]

So, the hype train is in full flow again for the arrival of Halo Wars 2, adding to the popular original with more weapons, units and vehicles to deploy onto the battlefield. Alongside a cooperative friend or two, or you can simply brave the fight alone, go 1v1 for a real test of skill, or get introduced to some new modes.

343 have designed the new Blitz mode, in which you open packs to collect cards that have different abilities and deal differing amounts of damage, and then proceed to pick certain cards to draw and call up to fight in battle, controlling areas to gain points – hardpoint style.

If you want to know more, then feel free to have a read of our hands-on time with the game at a recent event. It’s well worth a read.

Why Should You Buy It? Of course, for any veterans of Halo Wars, HW2 will definitely be a must-play, however any new players should certainly give the RTS a chance, especially with the all new Blitz mode to have a crack at.

narutoborutopic

For any Naruto anime fans out there, the Road to Boruto expansion for Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (bit of a mouthful!) is for you, as it allows players to visit new areas in the game such as the Hidden Leaf Village and play as new characters including Boruto and Sarada.

Picking up this retail version brings the entire base game along with the expansion, thus allowing players to also enjoy the adventures of Naruto Uzumaki and test their ninja skills in both local and online multiplayer.

Why Should You Buy It? While it may not appeal to everyone, all Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 players should pick up the Road to Boruto for more content to enjoy.
