It’s October and that means one thing…a ton of new games releasing on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. I mean, an absolute shed load…especially if you’re an Xbox One gamer.
But what are they? Well, without further ado, get your wallet prepped and let’s get started!
Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide – Xbox One
Both a digital and retail offering, Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide is a 4 player cooperative affair which sees you and your buddies team up to fight off the evil Skaven hordes that will endlessly plague you as you play. Bringing a unique twist to the FPS genre, Warhammer: ETV will see you put your brains to use as well as your weapons, as your 5 heroes, each with their different abilities, work together in a Left 4 Dead style atmosphere.
Why Should You Buy It? To plug that Left 4 Dead shaped hole in your heart, Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide is the perfect title for some late night co-op fun… and to sweeten the deal, console players will get the Last Stand mode, Sigmar’s Blessing and Drachenfels DLC for free!
Mafia III – Xbox One
Set in the 1960s with a wonderful open world to boot, Mafia III could well be the latest title to wow the Xbox One crowds.
Playing as Lincoln Clay, a mixed-race orphan who has just returned from the Vietnam War, Mafia III will take you on a ride round town, delivering a gritty, gruesome revenge story, an open world that is teaming with life and the chance to ‘partake’ in some of the heavy handedness that you would usually asscoiate with the Mafia bosses which rules the city back in teh day.
Mafia III isn’t going to be pretty, in fact, it’s going to be full of situations which may well push the boundaries to the very limit, but should you be looking for an open world which delivers a top notch experience, then 2k may just sort you out.
Why Should You Buy It? Mafia III may just attempt to take the GTA V crown. Surely you can’t miss that chance.
Ride 2 – Xbox One
Milestone are back and they’re bringing their rich racing history with them as they deliver Ride 2 to the masses.
174 bikes with an additional 16 race bikes included, you’ll be given the opportunity to sit astride nakeds, superbikes, supersports, electric biks and two strokes as Ride 2 sends you off on a two wheeled adventure.
Should you be worried about lack of content, then Milestone have promised that incredible dream bikes will be released throughout the initial six months of release with new DLC. You may just wish to get involved in the Season pass too!
Why Should You Buy It? A bike racers dream!
WRC 6 – Xbox One
The official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship, WRC 6 includes 14 WRC events, the full roster of drivers and teams, and a huge selection of WRC 2 and Junior WRC drivers. If you’re a WRC fan, then this is surely for you.
With tighter, bumpier stages and longer reworked challenges, a number of improvements have been made to WRC 6 to ensure it stands head and shoulders above its predecessor.
For the first time on consoles, the series is also now including a full split screen mode allowing for local multiplayer play, giving friends the chance to race simultaneously, fight the clock and dodge obstacles together. It should be a whole new look at the usual WRC fun and competition.
Why Should You Buy It? The fastest, most realistic WRC title to date.
Gears of War 4 – Xbox One
Hell yeah! Fenix is back.
No, not the original badass Marcus, for now it is time for a new saga with his son JD Fenix in the role of protagonist. Alongside his friends, Kait and Del, JD must rescue the ones they love after an attack and try to figure out the source of a monstrous new enemy. Fight alongside your own pals in the two-player co-op campaign in split-screen or over Xbox Live. There are new weapons to get to grips with such as the deadly sounding Buzzkill, which I’m sure will come in handy across the new, and old favourite, multiplayer game modes.
Why Should You Buy It? The next generation of Gears, in every sense, shouldn’t be missed. JD can be as brutal as his father in this improved cover-based shooter.
WWE 2K17 – Xbox One & Xbox 360
Get ready to lay the smack-down on all Superstars standing in your way as the next instalment of the WWE 2K series launches this month.
The Showcase mode has gone, but more effort has been placed into the likes of MyCareer, where an interesting story involving Paul Heyman will run alongside all the in-ring action. Promos have been reworked to not come across as repetitive, whilst those that are veterans of the ring could skip the developmental NXT altogether. Throw in a much improved Universe Mode, a massive roster containing almost every Superstar on the main shows as well as a multitude of Legends, and WWE 2K17 could be the best offering in the series so far.
Why Should You Buy It? After receiving a massive overhaul, and a huge amount of playable characters, WWE 2K17 will be a dream for fans.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience – Xbox One
The Definitive Experience of the stunning Metal Gear Solid V brings together the Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain base games, plus a whole host of previously downloadable content and a smattering of Mother Base currency to ensure that any newcomers to the MGS V field start off on a decent footing.
If you’ve already played through either game, then it’s unlikely you’re going to be worrying too much about the Definitive Experience, but if you’re one of the few who hasn’t – and you really shouldn’t be missing The Phantom Pain – then this is your best bet.
Why Should You Buy It? It’s the ultimate Metal Gear Solid V experience.
NOW That’s What I Call Sing 2 – Xbox One
Everyone loves a spot of singing, and so NOW That’s What I Call Sing 2 brings exactly that to the console in its purest form.
You’ll be able to warm up those vocals up against three other computer opponents, or belt out a tune with eight human players singing all at once. Game modes will include Classic, Duet, Pass the Mic, and the most interesting of them all By Heart – where lyrics will disappear randomly, so you better remember those. Featuring 30 of the biggest chart hits in recent years, you can expect to be singing along to Justin Bieber “Sorry”, LMFAO “Sexy And I know It” and Zara Larsson “Lush Life”, to name just a few.
A microphone isn’t even needed due to the option to use smartphones instead.
Why Should You Buy It? Because it’s almost time for those yuletide gatherings, and there’s no better way to party than with singing!
Overcooked: Gourmet Edition – Xbox One
With a good few hours of Overcooked gameplay under my belt, I have learnt one thing from playing through this chaotic cook-em-up on Xbox One…
And that is…Don’t. Stop. Moving.
Always against the clock – Overcooked throws you and up to three local co-op friends into a whole array of crazy kitchens, and expects you to balance chopping, frying and plating all at once, ensuring none of your dishes are nothing short of perfect. From my experience, expect to have the room filled up with shouts and insults, with one friend falling off the level and another one stuck in a part of the map with nothing to do.
It is pure chaos most of the time, but when you get a flow going and you start plating up dishes left, right and centre there is nothing more rewarding. What Overcooked: Gourmet Edition brings to the (mostly burnt and messy) table are some extra levels to try out your skills on, and some more characters to play as. Who doesn’t want a French Bulldog preparing their burger?!
Why Should You Buy It? Overcooked: Gourmet Edition brings all the controlled chaos and rewarding flow of Overcooked and packages some more levels and characters in a retail copy…in the hectic world of Overcooked there really isn’t mushroom for error. I’m so sorry.
Reus – Xbox One
From time to time everyone wants to feel like a god of the world – and developer Abbey Games appreciates this with their upcoming game Reus.
Commanding numerous nature giants from the hands of Mother Nature herself, the player can shape the world how they see fit by quite simply controlling nature – but beware, for the humans could become a bigger force than nature, so you will need to get thinking in order to balance the relationship between man and nature.
Why Should You Buy It? With unique gameplay mechanics and the constant threat of the human race, Reus looks very interesting indeed, and could be worth a look at when the game hits the shelves of Xbox One.
Skylanders: Imaginators – Xbox One and Xbox 360
While some people may think that the whole idea of ‘toys coming to life’ has been and gone, Toys for Bob and Activision don’t agree, with yet another Skylanders title releasing on Xbox One and Xbox 360 very soon.
However, Skylanders: Imaginators encourages you to use your own imagination (and some money) to create your very own Skylanders, picking clothing, weapons and the sort to use to fight the evil Doomlanders that populate the world. But if you are having trouble thinking of your very own unique creation, then don’t fear as you could alternatively purchase a few of the new Skylanders that can bought and played as.
Skylanders: Imaginators is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Skylander titles with endless amounts of customisable options to play around with – forming your very own army of cute and colourful characters.
Why Should You Buy It? Either for a younger relative or for yourself to catch a break from the more intense games out there, Skylanders: Imaginators is certainly a unique game, with oodles of potential for replayability and customisation.
Battlefield 1 – Xbox One
It actually feels like around 100 years ago that the latest Battlefield title was announced.
Set in WW1, Battlefield One is the Battlefield set the furthest back in the past, but this time period doesn’t mean any less fun with brand new weapons to get your hands on and mercilessly mow down your foes, early 18th Century military vehicles to pilot (and in my case crash quite quickly) and some brand new maps to feast your eyes upon as you roam the land or skies gunning down the enemy, capturing points and simply taking in the impressiveness of the game running on your Xbox One. Of course the game will have a single-player campaign to check out, but my bet is come the game releasing most people will be flocking to the servers to dig their teeth into the multiplayer action. What more needs to be said?
I’m sure you have checked out the recent multiplayer beta and I’m sure you will be putting BF1 at the top of your must-buy list – so jump aboard the hype train once again and ride into WW1.
Why Should You Buy It? Chances are you have played a Battlefield title and chances are you are aware of how big Battlefield 1 is, so not long to wait now until you can delve into a brand-new multiplayer experience.
Batman: Return to Arkham – Xbox One
One of the hardest things to nail in the video game world is making a decent superhero game… but my god Rocksteady did not only make a decent superhero game, but a near-on perfect outing as the Dark Knight himself back on Xbox 360.
Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City have not only given us some superb gameplay mechanics that some other superheroes have taken ‘inspiration’ from *cough* Spiderman *cough*, but we have also been treated to some outstanding pieces of storytelling – who better to have a great story based around than Batman??
Coming to Xbox One, Batman: Return to Arkham will let us relive those moments of pure epicness in better visuals and lighting, giving a much more authentic experience while dishing out justice to the thugs of Gotham and squaring up against the likes of Penguin, Scarecrow and the Joker.
Why Should You Buy It? Because anyone would want to step into the shoes of the World’s Greatest Detective, bringing justice to Arkham and Gotham, while also coming up against some of the most famous villains in comic-history!
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition – Xbox One
Yes, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition does kinda have a silly name, but we will let that slide on account of how good the original Darksiders was on Xbox 360. Well, good enough to warrant a remaster on Xbox One I suppose.
You’ll be playing as War, a horseman on a journey for vengeance against the Charred Council, whom accused War of playing a part in starting a bloody war between the forces of Heaven and Hell. Mounting his trusty phantom steed, Ruin, War will be able to unleash devastating attacks on his angelic and demonic foes by upgrading his magical weapons and hacking/slashing his way through his enemies.
Why Should You Buy It? If you are a fan of the hack ‘n’ slash genre but want the chance to explore a little, then Darksiders: Warmastered Edition should be next on your list of bloody, hectic games on Xbox One.
Farming Simulator 17 – Xbox One
The Fall has come and it’s time to keep check on our farms once more, and this time round Farming Simulator 17 is in place to test our farming skills.
The usual opportunities to sow seed, plough the fields and drive numerous vehicles are once more in place and they are lovingly complimented by all manner of animals which will need caring for throughout.
The 2017 edition does now also come with both male and femal farmers – a first for the series – and the introduction of a train system which will allow for easy movement of those big heavy goods.
Why Should You Buy It? If you want to learn the skills of a real farmer, Farming Simulator 17 could well be your best bet.
Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 – Xbox One
Relive the epic events of the Dragon Ball universe, as players must take on the roles of Time Patrollers in order to protect the timeline, both past and present, from being altered by evil intruders. There will be lots of missions to partake in either alone or with others online, and Patrollers can gather in the huge hub known as Conton City to train, undertake quests and do a bit of shopping.
Being able to tackle major bosses in a group of six, for the 6vs1 Expert Mission, is just one of the new modes that this sequel has to offer.
Why Should You Buy It? XenoVerse 2 appears to build upon the previous outing and once again, ensures YOU are the hero of the story.
Mark McMorris Infinite Air – Xbox One
It’s time to hit the powder and pull off some gnarly tricks as Mark McMorris Inifite Air sends you off to explore awe inspiring environments…all with a board attached to your feet.
Mark McMorris is obviously the star of the show, but numerous other pro boarders will join him as you run the procedurally generated mountains, mess around with a deep map editor and compete in real world events with the likes of Slopestyle, Big Air and Halfpipe all in place…pushing the competition with your friends to the limit as you do so.
Why Should You Buy It? The snowboard season is kicking in and Mark McMorris promises to bring you the best representation yet.
Titanfall 2 – Xbox One
God knows why EA have decided to release two of their biggest FPS’s so close together, but it’s happening so we are just gonna have to deal with it.
Now, I’m not one to return to a game too often, but there’s just something about the fast-paced gameplay, the incredible titans and alluring visuals of Titanfall that brings me back time and time again. Hopefully not overshadowed by Battlefield 1 and COD: Infinite Warfare, Titanfall 2 will throw you into a world of crazy weapons, crazy landscapes and even crazier robots, as it expects you to put your FPS head on and go out there and jump from wall to wall, dash through buildings and grapple up to the highest points in the map to get an advantage over the other humans and menacing Titans.
It’s exhilarating stuff, and coupled with the new super-weapons to unleash even more devastation upon your enemies, you can be sure Titanfall 2 will have you gripped from the start.
Why Should You Buy It? If you want something a little bit different from the conventional Battlefield’s and Call Of Duty’s out there, but still want a fun, innovative shooter, then Titanfall 2 is the way to go.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim – Xbox One
Occasionally a game comes along which requires little hype building and few words other than the immortal ‘Just buy it will ya’.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is one such game.
Arriving on Xbox One as a fully remastered edition of 2011’s supremely brilliant Skyrim, whether you’re a veteran just looking to indulge in a fantasy world like no other, or are a green newcomer wondering what all the fuss is about, there is just one thing you need to worry about.
Buying it!
Why Should You Buy It? One of the highest rated titles of all-time is now on Xbox One. Why wouldn’t you buy it?
So, that’s it for this month. As previously mentioned, October 2016 is a super busy month full of brand new releases on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Which will you be picking up? Let us know in the comments below or via our usual social channels.
Skyrim released in 2011, not 2009. SMH…
Whoops, fixed 😉
