Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny Zims Tower of Doom

Things are about to get considerably more chaotic in Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny, as one of Nickelodeon’s most unpredictable characters has finally joined the fight.

Zim’s Tower of Doom is available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, bringing Invader Zim into the playable roster alongside a brand-new survival mode designed to put your Nickelodeon heroes through their paces.

For anyone who has ever wondered what happens when Invader Zim is given a battlefield and a collection of ridiculous alien gadgets, well, the answer is probably exactly as chaotic as you’d expect.

Invader Zim Joins The Nicktoons

The biggest attraction in Zim’s Tower of Doom is, naturally, the arrival of Invader Zim as a brand-new playable character.

Zim brings his familiar brand of alien madness to the real-time combat of Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny, with his own technology, inventions and abilities giving players another way to approach the game’s battles. He’s also a rather different addition to a roster that already includes characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Katara, Leonardo, Sandy Cheeks, Timmy Turner and Susie Carmichael.

That opens up some potentially entertaining combinations, particularly for players who enjoy jumping into the game’s 2-4 player couch co-op with friends.

Expect The Unexpected

Zim isn’t exactly known for being the most sensible character in the Nickelodeon universe, so it would be rather disappointing if his arrival was completely straightforward.

His alien technology and chaotic approach to combat provide a new set of abilities to experiment with, giving returning players another reason to revisit the game’s real-time battles and experiment with different party combinations.

But don’t think that Zim is the only new addition. The DLC also introduces the Pillar of Lost Possibilities, an endless horde-survival mode built around increasingly difficult waves of enemies.

The concept is simple enough: enter the Pillar, start fighting and see how long you can survive. Each cleared wave increases the challenge, forcing players to make better use of their characters’ abilities and adapt as the enemies become more dangerous. It’s a mode designed around replayability rather than a single run through a predefined adventure, giving Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny another reason to be played beyond its main content.

And with couch co-op supporting up to four players, there’s the option to bring a few friends along and see just how far your team can make it.

A New Challenge For The Nicktoons

When we reviewed Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny, we awarded it 3.5/5, noting that while the game successfully brings together a collection of familiar Nickelodeon faces, its RPG systems lacked the depth and variety needed to sustain the experience for longer.

Zim’s Tower of Doom takes a slightly different approach by adding a character with his own combat abilities and, more importantly, a mode specifically designed to keep players coming back to see how far they can get.

Whether that is enough to keep the dice rolling for existing players remains to be seen, but there is certainly something appealing about throwing Invader Zim into the mix.

At ÂŁ7.99 from the usual digital stores like that of the Xbox Store, Zim’s Tower of Doom gives Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny players two clear reasons to return – a new playable character and an endless combat mode that should offer plenty of scope for repeat runs.
