ROUTINE
ROUTINE – now on Game Pass, Xbox, PC

After years of development and mounting anticipation, one of the most talked-about psychological horror games has finally broken its silence.

ROUTINE, the first-person sci-fi horror title set on an abandoned lunar base, has launched on Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC for £20.99.

In the biggest and best news for subscribers, ROUTINE is a Day One debutant on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, meaning you can immediately step into this nightmare and begin your lonely investigation.

The Long-Awaited Re-Emergence

The journey for ROUTINE has been legendary, with the game’s retro-analogue future aesthetic capturing the imagination of horror fans for years.

We’ve been tracking its progress, reporting earlier this year that the long-awaited sci-fi horror ROUTINE re-emerged with a 2025 release. Today, the haunting mysteries lurking in the unknown are ready to be explored.

Survival Through Observation

The premise is simple: a lunar base has gone completely quiet. You are sent to investigate, only to find that the enemy lurking within is certain that the main threat… is you.

ROUTINE offers a truly immersive experience designed to ratchet up the tension. The environment is built around an 80s vision of the future, creating a distinct, retro-analogue setting.

This is enhanced by full body awareness, diegetic audio (where the sound comes from the world, not the game’s interface), and a minimal UI, which combines to create a gripping and atmospheric experience.

No Waypoints, Only Wits

Finding your way forward is a core mechanic.

The game features no waypoint markers – you must slow down, observe your surroundings, and review data you uncover to figure out the path forward and progress the story. Your only essential tool is the Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (C.A.T.), which you use to access critical terminals, navigate the environment, and identify clues.

When faced with an unknown threat, your only options are to run, hide, or attempt to defend yourself using the C.A.T. as a last resort. Every discovery leads to deeper unknowns, and the only way out is forward.

Your All-Access Lunar Mission

This simultaneous multi-platform launch is a massive win for Raw Fury, who are dedicated to championing unique indie games. ROUTINE is a full Xbox Play Anywhere title. This fantastic feature means your chilling journey can continue, no matter which device you’re on.

A single Game Pass subscription gives you access on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Furthermore, the game is Xbox Handheld Optimized, making it a perfect fit for portable play on your ROG Ally.

Your Cosmonaut Checklist

Here is a bulleted summary of what to expect from this intense sci-fi horror:

  • Day One Game Pass Launch: Available on Xbox and PC Game Pass.
  • 80s Retro-Analogue Future: Explore an abandoned lunar base with a distinct aesthetic.
  • No Waypoints, Minimal UI: Focus on immersive exploration and environmental storytelling.
  • The Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (C.A.T.): Essential for navigation and accessing terminals.
  • Survival Gameplay: Run, hide, or attempt to defend against unknown threats.
  • Full Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Handheld Optimized support.

The lunar base is dark, the silence is oppressive, and your investigation has begun. If you’re a Game Pass member and a fan of deep, atmospheric horror games, ROUTINE is ready for your deployment on the Xbox Store right now.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
