Of Bird and Cage immediately oozes quality – and right now you can play through it on Xbox and PlayStation.

Previously limited to the PC world, Of Bird and Cage now releases on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5 to deliver a playable symphonic metal album experience to console players.

It’s priced around $9.99/€9.99/£6.99, with a nifty little Xbox discount in the first two weeks of launch, promising to allow console players the chance to really experience the power of metal – pretty much like never before.

Created by Capricia Productions with publishing rights handled by All in! Games, Of Bird and Cage brings together the gaming world with that of metal, delivering an experience that is fully entwined with the sounds of artists from (ex) Guns N’ Roses, Epica, Within Temptation, and many others.

It’s very much a a unique metal album that is presented through a two-hour-long story-driven game; dark, twisted and specifically tailored to its music. It’s certainly a game with which you’ll be able to submerge yourself into the sheer power of metal music like never before with a two-hour-long story of trauma, violence and madness based on the ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

Quick gameplay synopsis and Of Bird and Cage has you playing as Gitta Barbot, a 25-year-old drug addict, who tries to escape the physical and mental prison of her captor – Bres Lupus. You’ll need to make quick choices that will have dire consequences and see how your actions reveal new paths while struggling to keep your sanity. The question is, what will you do? Will you take revenge or grant forgiveness? Ultimately, the choice is yours.

It’s got a pretty stellar line-up of artists too and whilst the Legendary ex-Guns N’Roses Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal may be the headline, expect to find the following included…

  • Kobra Paige (Kobra and the Lotus)
  • Davidavi ‘Vidi’ Dolev (Gunned Down Horses)
  • Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses)
  • Rob van der Loo (Epica)
  • Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation)
  • Casey Grillo (ex-Kamelot)
  • Rocky Gray (ex-Evanescence)
  • Mike Lepond (Symphony X)
  • Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria)
  • Tina Guo
  • Snowy Shaw (ex-King Diamond, ex-Therion)

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
