For 18 months or so One Step From Eden has been filling the deckbuilding roguelike boots of players on PlayStation, Switch and PC. Now though it’s time for Xbox gamers to get in on that action, with release on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. And yep, this one debuts in Game Pass for good measure.

Available to purchase and download (or just make the most of the Game Pass love and freely download) on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, One Step From Eden from Humble Games and the developer Thomas Moon Kang, is a roguelike deckbuilder. Now, we’ve seen many, many, roguelike affairs hit our consoles in recent times, and there have been more than a smattering of deckbuilders in amongst them. So what makes this one different? It’s set in a bleak post-war world, for starters. but also focuses on real-time grid-based combat and a whole ton of strategic calls.

Priced at £16.74 from the Xbox Store unless you utilise Game Pass, One Step From Eden on Xbox will deliver you the chance to get acquainted with more than 9 playable characters and bosses, as over 40 enemies come your way, waiting to be set straight. Thankfully it’s here where the deckbuilding moments come into play, as well as the strategy and tactics; with 250 odd spells in the house and over 150 game changing artifacts just waiting to be used, there’s a ton of variety promised here.

It all comes together thanks to a procedurally generated world, and whilst that may well be enough to scare many, for others it’s the unknown that will excite. When you consider that every decision you make and every action you take could well be the difference between life or death, and that alternate endings are present as well, this just ramps the excitement even more.

The best thing about One Step From Eden though? When you’re done gallivanting around the world of Eden alone, you can grab a mate and partake in either local cooperative or PvP action.

So what do you think? Let us know if One Step From Eden on Xbox is one that you’ll be taking in. Surely with launch into Game Pass, it’s a bit of a no-brainer, right? Stay tuned for a review from us soon.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
