Operation Wolf was a go-to back in the late 1980’s; a game in which we pumped many an hour. So it comes with great excitement that Operation Wolf will be returning, with the officially licensed Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission.Â
A good few decades after Operation Wolf was properly front and centre of the gaming industry, Microids will be bringing the rail-shooter to new consoles later this year, and VR in 2023.Â
It’s due to drop onto Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch digitally, with the PlayStation and Switch folk out there also able to grab a physical edition.
Being developed by the French team at Virtuallyz Gaming and helped along by those at Microids (let’s just hope they have better success than with XIII), Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission promises to remain faithful to the original game whilst offering a brand new art style. It’s here where players are invited to experience the mood of an 80’s action movie thanks to a non-stop frenetic gameplay.
Playable solo or cooperatively in local form, in Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission has you playing as special agents tasked to fight a criminal organization. In addition to drug and weapon trafficking, the organization lead by the mysterious General Viper seems to have developed a weapon of mass destruction! Following the discovery of several of the group bases, the agents are sent on location to dismantle the consortium, eliminate the weapons and free the hostages from various prisoner camps.
The VR version of First Mission will release on Meta Quest 2 in 2023, but the overall game features and facts include:
- Comeback of the 1987 cult arcade game!
- New art style
- Non-stop action
- A campaign for one or two players
- A survival mode (endless waves of enemies)
- A full blown arsenal (smg, shotgun, grenade launcher…)
- A leaderboard
Are you ready for an Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission leaderboard? We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop but keep an eye out for this one releasing on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and VR soon.
