We make choices every day, including the one you made to click on this article. If you boil them down, they can often be simplified to just a few words. Work? Yes, No. Sleep? Now, later. This reductive approach to our lives, and the choices we make, is the space that Ord plays in.
Ord is out now on Xbox One and PS4 (US and Europe). It comes out on the 5th November in Japan on PS4 and Switch, and is out on the Switch in all other territories on the 6th of November.
As an idea for a video game, it’s a fascinating one: a stripped back text adventure that’s intended to be played swiftly, making choices on the fly and seeing where it takes you. The official trailer gives a neat example of walking over or under a bridge. Go under and you get eaten by a troll, while over keeps you travelling.
We’re eager to see how far Ratalaika Games and Mujo Games go with this. Do three word choices get boring? What happens if you die or have to return to the start? Is this a score attack game?
This seems like a thought experiment more than anything else, but it’s a budget title – only £4.99 for all platforms – so it might well be an experiment that’s worth taking part in.
Don’t just listen to us: Ord’s path is strewn with accolades. It was a finalist in the TIGA Games Industry Awards in 2019, and was a FutureZone Award Winner, also in 2019. That bodes well for all of the questions we had, and we’re pretty excited to try this one out. We’ll let you know how it goes in our full review.
