Outbound Delivers Relaxed Road Trip Vibes On Game Pass

2026's Best Games

The official Outbound keyart
Outbound – now on Game Pass, Xbox and PC

Outbound is instantly appealing. A camper van, an open road, renewable energy, a couple of friends along for the ride, absolutely no rush to get anywhere, and a Game Pass Day One drop. What is there to not like?

Launching today on Xbox Series X|S and PC with full Play Anywhere support, Outbound also arrives Day One on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate and PC subscribers – instantly making it one of the more intriguing cozy drops of the month.

First revealed back in 2025, when we covered its road trip-inspired premise, the finished release from Square Glade Games now invites players to hit the road and build the ultimate sustainable home on wheels.

Build Your Dream Camper Van

Outbound starts simply enough: an empty camper van and a huge world waiting to be explored.

From there, players are free to slowly transform that vehicle into a fully functioning travelling home, adding modular upgrades, furniture, decorations and workstations while expanding both inside and on top of the van itself.

Energy management plays a major role too, but in a much more relaxing way than most survival games. Solar panels, wind turbines and water-powered systems all help keep your home running as you travel through forests, mountains and colourful open-world biomes. It’s survival, just without the constant stress and misery that usually comes attached to the genre. If the worst comes to be, just head to bed and sleep it off…

A Cozy Road Trip With Friends

Outbound also supports online co-op for up to four players, allowing groups to head out on shared road trips together.

That means gathering resources, crafting new equipment, growing crops and building the perfect rolling base as a team. There’s even room for a little companionship away from your human friends too, thanks to adoptable pets.

More Than Just Exploration

While the cozy atmosphere is clearly the big selling point, Outbound does still include plenty of progression systems underneath the laid-back vibes.

You’ll gather materials, unlock improved technology, build gardens filled with plants and mushrooms, cook meals and continue upgrading your camper setup as you push deeper into the world.

The freedom to approach everything at your own pace feels central to the experience too. Whether you want to spend hours carefully decorating your van or simply drive off towards the next biome, Outbound seems happy to let players carve out their own journey.

And with a Day One Game Pass launch attached, there’s every chance this one quickly finds an audience looking for a more chilled-out escape. Outbound is available now on Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Xbox Store and Game Pass.

Stay tuned for our full review of Outbound.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
