Outbound – wanna go fishing?

Outbound is a game that is all about slowing down, hitting the open road and building the ultimate home on wheels. Now, the cosy camper-van adventure is becoming even more relaxing, thanks to its first major free content update that focuses on fishing.

Available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam and the Epic Games Store, the new Fishing Update introduces an entirely new pastime to accompany your off-grid adventures, alongside fresh building options and plenty more reasons to keep exploring.

At A Glance

  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
  • Update: Fishing Update

Cast A Line In Outbound’s Biggest Update Yet

If you’ve been looking for another excuse to park up beside a peaceful lake, the Fishing Update delivers exactly that.

Players can now craft multiple tiers of fishing rods before heading out in search of dozens of different fish species scattered throughout Outbound’s colourful biomes. Whether you’re exploring solo or travelling with friends in four-player online co-op, there’s now another relaxing activity to slot into your sustainable road trip.

Fishing isn’t the only addition either. The update also expands the game’s creative side with extra building options, giving players even more freedom when customising the interior of their mobile home.

A Strong Start For A Cosy Adventure

The update follows an impressive launch period for Square Glade Games’ road-trip adventure.

Outbound has already welcomed more than 250,000 players across all platforms since its multi-platform release earlier this year, with its blend of exploration, crafting, vehicle customisation and sustainable living quickly finding an audience among fans of cosy games.

From powering your camper van with renewable energy to growing crops, adopting animal companions and exploring vibrant open environments, the game has carved out its own niche within the increasingly popular cosy genre.

And if the arrival of fishing has you in the mood for more relaxing angling adventures, don’t forget to check out our Fishing Games hub, where we’ve rounded up some of the very best fishing games available on Xbox.

More Reasons To Hit The Open Road

When we reviewed Outbound, we awarded it a 3.5/5, saying: “Outbound is a cozy game. An adventure game. A crafting game. An exploration game. It’s a game of many things, much of which comes together well, albeit slowly. Outbound may take its sweet time getting there, but it does get there. Eventually.

This first major content update feels like another meaningful step in that journey, expanding the game’s already laid-back formula without changing the core experience players have come to enjoy.

The Fishing Update is available to download now as a free update for all Outbound players on Xbox Series X|S (download via the Xbox Store), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
