If you can remember back a few months, you would have found that the gaming scene kicked off in 2018 with Outbreak: The New Nightmare, a survival horror experience that had just a bit of the Resident Evil about it. Well, now it’s time to head back into the nightmare once more as Outbreak is back with The Nightmare Chronicles.

Whether or not you’ll want to head back is entirely up to you, but The New Nightmare most definitely failed to live up to its early year promises. But we’re willing to give the development team at Drop Dead Studios another crack and for that reason will be spending some time in the horror once more.

An unforgiving title that sees you fighting for survival, you can be sure that death lurks at every turn with The Nightmare Chronicles and it’ll be up to you to decide when the time is right to fight, or flee. Get it wrong, and chances are your fate will be sealed.

A fully single player experience in which limited supplies make things tougher, you’ll be given the chance to battle through the Story Mode, or take on the tough as nails Battle Mode, searching rooms and reading logs in order to try and get one up on the horror within.

Our full review of Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles will be with you in the days ahead, but for now should you wish to give it a shot, the Microsoft Store is waiting. A price tag of $4.99 (although you may be able to get hold of that with a 10% discount) ensures that it’ll most definitely be a cheap purchase. But will it be cheerful? That is debatable!

You’ll also have to reside in the North American region in order to get hands on with Outbreak. Should a release on European and UK shores ever materialise, then we’ll let you know.

Alongside the Chronicles is also a bundle pack that brings together this game, and the previous two – Outbreak and Outbreak: The New Nightmare. It comes with a $14.99 price but should be the way to go if you are looking for the biggest nightmare experience.

Game Description:

As the city burns and the countryside is engulfed by the epidemic, you’re now alone and forced to live with this new reality. Monstrous beasts and disfigured remnants roam freely with their numbers increasing rapidly. Scattered and separated from your fellow survivors, you’ve fled into a large manor estate to escape the relentless horde. Your only goal now is survival. Explore the manor, locate supplies and find a way to wake from this nightmare. But somehow… you know your fate is already sealed. Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles is an unforgiving survival horror experience. Death lurks behind each door as you fight to survive with the limited supplies at your disposal. Search rooms thoroughly and make the right choice when to fight – or flee – from the monstrosities. Featuring classic hardcore survival horror gameplay in a directed single-player experience, you’ll need to stay on your toes to stay alive. You have a limited inventory and you’ll need to leverage supply caches to store your equipment for use later. Saving your game is also highly restrictive and you’ll need to locate the means to record your progress as you explore. Lydia’s adventure is just the beginning… can you survive the chronicles and determine the fate of the other survivors? Story Mode: Survive through a classic single-player survival horror experience. Battle Mode: Tough as nails action mode where you scrounge and fight to reach the exit. Cinematic: Experience your last moments through fixed cameras and beautiful environments. Explore: Search rooms and read logs to find keys and solve puzzles to survive. Fight or Flee: Engage threats directly or run away to safety in another room. Classic: True hardcore classic survival horror with a limited inventory and deadly foes. Progress: Saving is limited and restricted. Find floppy disks to record your progress. Storage: Manage your limited inventory by finding and storing items in caches. Difficult: Play across multiple difficulty modes, including the one hit kill Nightmares mode. Defense: Utilize numerous firearms and melee weapons against the undead.
