Overthrown – trying its luck on Game Pass

Get ready to unleash your inner tyrant and build a kingdom with a twist in Overthrown, as it arrives in Game Preview on Game Pass, Xbox and PC.

Maximum Entertainment and Brimstone Games are launching Overthrown, a chaotic open-world city builder, into Early Access on Steam, Xbox Game Preview, and Game Pass for console, PC, and cloud.

As we saw in the recent Steam Next Fest demo, where Overthrown stormed into the top 40 most played games, this unique blend of city building, action combat, and multiplayer mayhem is ready to redefine the genre.

A King’s Unusual Powers

In Overthrown, you play as a monarch wielding a powerful, soul-stealing crown. But this isn’t your typical kingdom management sim.

With the power of the crown, you can lift and hurl anything and everything – trees, houses, even your own citizens – to build your kingdom and defend it from invading bandits and mutants.

Features That Will Make You Toss Your Crown in the Air

  • Build Anywhere: Construct your kingdom from scratch, strategically placing buildings and managing your citizens to create a thriving community. Don’t like where you put something? Just pick it up and throw it somewhere else!
  • Lift Anything: Gather resources with unparalleled efficiency by lifting and hurling trees, rocks, and even enemy lairs. Use the environment to your advantage, creating traps and manipulating the battlefield to your will.
  • Action-Packed Combat: Defend your kingdom with acrobatic combat inspired by anime action heroes. Run across water, spin-attack through the air, and unleash devastating abilities to defeat your foes.
  • Seasonal Challenges: Manage your resources and adapt to the changing seasons, ensuring your kingdom survives the harsh winters and thrives throughout the year.
  • Multiplayer Mayhem: Team up with up to five friends in online co-op mode and build your kingdoms together. But beware, only one player can wear the crown, leading to inevitable betrayals and power struggles.

Early Access and Game Preview: A Work in Progress

Overthrown is launching in Early Access on Steam and Xbox Game Preview, which means it’s still a work in progress. The developers are actively seeking feedback from players to shape the game’s future and refine the experience. With it landing in Game Pass too, there should be no shortage of players.

This is your chance to be part of the development process and help shape the future of this chaotic and innovative city builder.

What is Game Preview?

Xbox Game Preview allows players to experience games while they’re still in development, providing valuable feedback to the developers and helping to shape the final product. Game Preview titles may have some bugs or unfinished features, but they offer a unique opportunity to be part of the game’s evolution.

Overthrown is available now in Early Access on Steam, Xbox Game Preview, and Game Pass via the Xbox Store. It’s playable on Xbox Series X|S, but not on Xbox One. ÂŁ15.49 will sort you out if you don’t have Game Pass.

There’s a free trial too.

Overthrown Description

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
