Overwatch 2 goes free for all

overwatch 2

It took a little while to get moving, but once the original Overwatch managed to see off Battleborn, things really kicked on, with it becoming a hugely popular gaming experience the globe over. But to keep the excitement high, things must change – and that’s where the free-to-play Overwatch 2 charges into action.

Coming from Blizzard Entertainment, Overwatch 2 is more a reimagining and refocusing than anything else, taking everything that worked brilliantly for Overwatch 1 before ramping things up to the next level.

Free-to-play for all, it’ll give you the chance to disrupt the battlefield like never before as you work with all new Heroes – Sojourn, armed with a railgun and Canadian hospitality; Junker Queen, leader of the Scrapyard ready to wield her axe; Kiriko as the newest Support alongside her loyal fox spirit – and an ever-expanding world that is capable of delivering some breathtaking sights and gameplay moments.

Whisking us off to the likes of New York City, Monte Carlo, Toronto, Rome and more, Overwatch 2 will deliver new game modes, more objectives than before and the chance to hone the finest strategies as you go. A new Push Mode will bring something exciting, whilst daily challenges and the promise of frequent update drops will ensure that Overwatch 2 continues to cling to the crown it previously held.

Whether you take to Overwatch 2 alone or with friends, the new 5v5 gameplay sessions that you’ll enjoy promise much. If you’re a vet in the Overwatch scene, then getting involved as Blizzard make the move into Overwatch 2 is pretty much a no-brainer. But newbies should be welcomed here too – especially as we’re looking at full free-to-play access.

Of course, if you would prefer to spend some cash, you can do so. The Overwatch 2: Watchpoint Pack will hit you for £34.99, but in return you should expect to find pretty much everything you need to get rolling – new skins, Overwatch Coins, player icons, Season One Premium Battle Pass and more.

We’ll be sure to follow with some review thoughts as to how Overwatch 2 plays once things get started. For now though, let us know what you are most looking forward to with Overwatch 2 and the free-to-play goodness it brings. The comments are below.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
