Just days after celebrating the series 15th anniversary, news has arrived that many non-PlayStation fans were hoping for: Announced during The Game Awards, The Yakuza Remastered Collection and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life are heading to Xbox Game Pass for consoles and PC. After successful ports of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 in 2020, four more Yakuza titles are heading to Xbox and Steam in 2021.
Despite the host of new features and ideas, Yakuza: Like a Dragon on Xbox is still quintessentially a Yakuza title. The humour is still here, as are the plot twists on plot twists, and of course the karaoke, which all add up to make it one of the stronger ‘launch’ titles on the Xbox Series X|S. There is a noticeable graphical improvement over previous titles on the Xbox One too; Ijincho is a gorgeous addition to the city roster and returning cities have never looked better.
There is no better time than now to get into the Yakuza series on Xbox. Yakuza: Like a Dragon has a new main protagonist in Ichiban Kasuga, a new city to run around, and plenty of new activities to partake in! Sure, there are still the usual karaoke, arcade games and Mahjong parlors, but which new activities are our picks to sink your time into?
Welcome to the new generation! And what better way to christen your new Xbox Series X or S than with a brand-new Yakuza title! Yakuza: Like a Dragon is now available on Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
If you want to play a bit of Yakuza, then Xbox One is the place to do it, with Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 all playable on Microsoft's current console. But going forward and Yakuza fans will be well sorted too, with us knowing for some time that Yakuza: Like A Dragon has been confirmed for launch on Xbox Series X|S, at the same time as releasing on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. If you're looking to go into next gen Yakuza on a PS5 though, you're going to have to wait a good few months.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon may be one of the titles that releases across both generations, but it has re-affirmed that it will be available on launch day for Xbox Series X. That remains sometime in November. The release for the Xbox One version (and PS4 and PC) has just been announced.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 on Xbox One is an excellent addition to Xbox Game Pass, and another solid entry to the series. It is a culmination of the series so far that has arrived on Xbox in 2020, until Like a Dragon releases later in the year. Hopefully, the remaining titles of 3-6 can release on Xbox, because Kiryu and Haruka’s journey is only just beginning. But if this is the last ‘Kiryu’ Yakuza game, then it’s been a wild ride.
Hot off the heels that Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on 30th July, SEGA and RGG Studio have released a slew of news on the latest instalment in the Yakuza franchise, Like a Dragon.
