You may never have heard of it - we hadn’t - but Fishing Adventure is one of the top-rated fishing titles in recent years, having previously gathered up a bit of an audience on PC and Nintendo Switch. Today it throws its net over the Xbox world, hoping to catch a similarly great reception.
Fishing Adventure is very much on the arcade end of the fishing game spectrum. It looks okay, the fish come across as just about alright and the gameplay is relaxing. The grind is far too real though and whilst the quests are a nice touch, they never have that feeling of jeopardy that you’d want them to be associated with.
There may be many fishing titles out there on the market, but very few deal with the commercial side of fish catching. But one that does is that of Fishing: North Atlantic. After recently arriving to allow virtual anglers the chance to prove themselves on the rough seas of the North Atlantic, a new drop of DLC has now also arrived, one that sees the game offer up a tasty drop of scallops.
A scrolling shoot ‘em up is a great idea for a roguelite, and when’s the next time you’ll be playing as an undead, flame fish? The execution just isn’t enough, though, and Akinofa ends up feeling as pitiful as a fish out of water.
If you cast the net wide enough, when you drag it back in you’ll find all manner of goodies attached. And with Bassmaster Fishing 2022, Dovetail Games have today dragged in and detailed out the 10 playable professional anglers who will be present in game.
Should you fancy yourself as a commercial fisherman and want to prove it in the virtual world, Fishing: North Atlantic is the new game of choice. However, this is a very niche genre, the competition isn’t awfully strong, and saying that feels like faint praise.
Unfortunately, despite an intriguing proposition, The Strange Story of Brian Fisher: Chapter 1 fails to meet its ambitions at almost every turn. What results is a lacklustre experience for which I cannot recommend saving your pennies for.
Virtual anglers already have a host of options available to them. There's the likes of Ultimate Fishing Simulator, the brilliant offerings from Dovetail Games in the form of both Fishing Sim World and Euro Fishing, and there's even the chance to head to the Barents Sea for a catch or two. Today though those numerous fishing options expand with the arrival of Fishing: North Atlantic on Xbox - are you ready to take a voyage into the unknown?
Dovetail Games know a thing or two about detail. After all, it's they who have provided some superb immersion in the Train Sim World series of games, whilst being the go-to creators of numerous fishing and angling titles. Next on their list though is that of Bassmaster Fishing 2022 and today they are showing off the stunning scenery found in no less than 8 real-world venues that will be in the game.
This is only the beginning. The first chapter in a lengthier tale. A tale that focuses on the life and times of your everyday police detective. The Strange Story of Brain Fisher: Chapter 1. Oh, and it comes with a twist or two for good measure.
