Twin Mirror on Xbox is a good game, if a little inconsistent. It's not the best adventure game out there, but for fans of the genre, it's still a solid experience. For those who aren't as keen on the genre, nothing here is going to change your mind. Still, this is a good experience with a gripping story, some great characters, decent gameplay and moments of brilliance. It's just held back by some unfortunate issues, and the shadow of its better Dontnod adventure siblings.
There are few more notorious serial murderers than the Zodiac Killer. Active in North America in the late ‘60s to early ‘70s, the Zodiac was never identified, having killed 37 people (going by The Zodiac’s own tally), or five known deaths according to official records. You might recognise the signature symbol and cryptograms he would write and send to law enforcement, journalists or even leave at crime scenes. This brazenness has made the Zodiac Killer a darkly attractive figure for movies, with the Mindhunter TV series and Zodiac - the 2007 David Fincher movie - all being recent examples. So, we come to This is the Zodiac Speaking, which is looking to bring the Zodiac cases to gaming. It launches today on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch.
If you want a good solid FMV that is clever, brilliantly filmed, and has enough twists and turns to keep you interested then you should definitely give She Sees Red on Xbox One a go. However, if you after gameplay, or anything more than some action-orientated choices every eight minutes or so, then this isn't the game for you.
Rainswept on Xbox One is a game that I have enjoyed tremendously, from the very start right up to the very finish. It tells a great, mysterious detective story while keeping its heart, humour, and heat.
Lost Wing has just docked onto Xbox One, so get ready to pilot a stupidly fast ship through some harsh worlds as you blast away anything in your path. Let’s see those adrenaline levels spiking!
If you love the idea of spontaneously chatting with fascinating strangers, then Night Call will most certainly give you a long list of memorable characters.
There’s a killer on the loose in Night Call and you were almost their next victim. Could you, an ordinary taxi driver, do the unthinkable by solving the mystery of who the culprit is? That’s the objective in this narrative-driven game out now on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch!
A quick glance at the Artifex Mundi back catalogue would lead you to believe their titles are only full of fantastical settings, evil demons, and magical creatures. While that may be true more often than not, a handful of their games are relatively ‘normal’ - like Noir Chronicles: City of Crime. Path of Sin: Greed is another offering of such ilk, aiming to deliver an enjoyable hidden object puzzle adventure centred on crime solving. We’re going to have to do a spot of detective work in order to find out if developers Cordelia Games have succeeded.
I don’t know what the development team at Artifex Mundi are having for breakfast, but the speed they make games and put them out to their puzzle-solving hungry audience is nothing short of astonishing. They must be putting something special in their Weetabix in the morning as now we see another puzzler hit home, and it has to be said Path of Sin: Greed on Xbox One is yet another fascinating tale of intrigue and mystery.
