AVATAR- FRONTIERS OF PANDORA - FROM THE ASHES EXPANSION
AVATAR- FRONTIERS OF PANDORA – FROM THE ASHES EXPANSION

The fight for Pandora takes a darker, far more personal turn today as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora expands with the arrival of the From The Ashes expansion.

Available now across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and PC via Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store and Steam, this premium DLC shifts both perspective and tone, delivering a grittier chapter inspired by the Avatar: Fire and Ash film.

This time, the story is driven not by discovery, but by vengeance.

A Story Forged In Fire And Loss

From The Ashes places players in the role of So’lek, a Sarentu warrior haunted by past failures and unfinished conflicts. His struggle for peace is shattered when a terrifying new threat emerges, forcing him back into the fight to protect his people.

This expansion leans heavily into character-driven storytelling, exploring grief, rage and survival as So’lek confronts enemies that know the Na’vi all too well.

The Rise Of The Ash Clan

For the first time in the series, players face Na’vi enemies in full-scale combat. The Ash Clan, also known as the Mangkwan raiders, are ruthless warriors who reject Eywa and embrace destruction. Their scarred bodies, scorched armour and striking red and black war paint signal a brutal departure from anything seen before.

These enemies are not just visually distinct. They exploit Na’vi strengths and weaknesses, leading to intense boss encounters against figures like Wukula, Zari the RDA-trained sniper, and Rakx, a sadistic raider who weaponises ikrans in combat.

A World Left In Ruins

Pandora’s beauty remains, but it is now fractured. The Kinglor Forest has been scarred by fire, war and RDA experimentation, while the Western Frontier becomes a battleground where Ash Clan raiders and enhanced RDA forces tighten their grip.

New enemy technology raises the stakes further, including hellhounds, upgraded AMP suits, and Skel units equipped for sniper and shotgun warfare. Even Pandora’s skies feel hostile this time around.

From The Ashes is designed with third-person gameplay at its core, though first-person remains available. Combat has been refined with streamlined progression, brutal takedown finishers and more flexible stealth options, letting players choose whether to stalk the shadows or charge headlong into battle.

This shift also aligns with the recent free title update, which added long-requested features including New Game+ and third-person view to the base game.

“For the first time, players will experience Na’vi versus Na’vi combat in dramatic boss encounters,” said Omar Bouali, Creative Director at Massive Entertainment. “These battles against Mangkwan raiders deliver on one of our community’s biggest requests: more variety and intensity in combat.”

A Chance To Add The Missing Bite?

Our 4/5 review of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora praised its world but wanted more depth beneath the surface:

“I really wanted to love Frontiers of Pandora, and while I did love exploring the stunning forests and varied biomes of Pandora a lot, the rest of the game lacked that special sauce that could have made this an all time classic.”

From The Ashes appears positioned to address some of those criticisms, delivering heavier combat, darker themes and more intense enemy encounters that push beyond sightseeing alone.

Editions And How To Play

The expansion can be purchased standalone for ÂŁ20.99, or accessed via the From The Ashes Edition or Complete Edition, which bundle the DLC alongside the base game and additional content.

Ubisoft+ subscribers can also jump straight in. As would be expected.

With its scorched landscapes, personal narrative and the most aggressive enemies the series has seen, From The Ashes marks a bold shift for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. This is not a journey of wonder, but one of reckoning, where survival means confronting your own kind and the scars they leave behind.
