Phasmophobia Nells Diner – out today

The fryers are cold, the jukebox is silent, but this abandoned eatery is anything but empty.

Kinetic Games today launches a brand-new map for its genre-defining co-op horror game, Phasmophobia. The new map, Nell’s Diner, is a free update available for all players on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PS VR2, and PC via Steam.

This new, highly-anticipated location is a small-scale map, a classic American diner long-abandoned by its staff and customers, which promises to give players nowhere to hide when the hunt begins.

Another Haunt for a Terrifyingly Good Time

It’s been a massive year for Phasmophobia on console. We were there when the game first made its terrifying leap to Xbox Game Preview back in August, and we’ve been hooked ever since.

In our preview of the game, we called it “a genuine horror experience… with oodles of replayability,” and it seems that Kinetic Games are committed to feeding that replayability.

This new map is the 14th to be added to the game and follows a year of major updates, including substantial reworks for the fan-favourite Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouse maps, as the game heads towards its “Horror 2.0” vision.

Welcome to Nell’s Diner

Get ready for a night shift like no other. This nostalgic new map features all the trappings of a classic retro eatery, including a food counter with red leather stools, booths, a kitchen, and plenty of dark storage rooms.

The key feature of Nell’s Diner is its small-scale, claustrophobic design. Unlike some of the game’s more sprawling locations, this map is all about tight corridors and limited hiding spots, ensuring that every hunt will be an intense and heart-pounding experience.

Phasmophobia’s maps aren’t inherently scary, or too horror focused. The fear develops from familiar, nostalgic locations, where something just isn’t quite right…” said Kinetic Games Art Director, Corey Dixton. “There’s so much for players to uncover in Nell’s, beyond just the ghost they’re hunting, and we can’t wait to see them start to explore.

New Twitch Drops to Celebrate

To celebrate the launch of Nell’s Diner, Kinetic Games is also rolling out a brand-new Twitch Drops campaign, giving players the chance to earn some sweet, limited-time rewards. The event kicks off today and runs for two weeks.

  • Animated ‘Sweet Tooth’ ID Card & Badge: Available from November 11th–18th exclusively by watching Kinetic Games Partner streams (2 hours watch time required).
  • Standard ‘Sweet Tooth’ ID Card & Badge: Available from November 18th–25th by watching any Phasmophobia stream (2 hours watch time required).

The menu is set, and the pie is to die for (literally). With a claustrophobic new map to master and the promise of more reworks and new content on the horizon, the future of ghost hunting on Xbox has never looked more terrifying, or more exciting.

It’s time to gear up, grab your friends, and see what spirits are still waiting for their check. The update is free and live today.

Head over to the usual digital stores (like the Xbox Store), if you wish to download Phasmophobia.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
