2026's Best Games

The official keyart of the game Stillbone as it launches on Xbox and PC
Stillbone – make every move count

Sometimes the smartest move in a game is to do absolutely nothing. That’s the unusual challenge presented by Stillbone, a clever platformer with a tactical twist that has now arrived on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Priced at £4.19 and available in three versions (Xbox Series X|S Optimised, Xbox One and Windows PC), Stillbone is the latest release from developer and publisher 2dragontails.

Known for quirky puzzle-platformers, the studio continues its streak of creative indie ideas with a game where movement itself becomes the core puzzle mechanic.

After all, in these ancient ruins, your enemies only move when you do.

  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC
  • Price: £4.19
  • Genre: Puzzle Platformer

A Platformer With A Tactical Twist

At first glance, Stillbone may look like a traditional retro-style platformer. Players control a small skeleton hero navigating through mysterious environments filled with hazards and enemies.

But there’s a catch.

In this world, enemies only move when you move. Every step you take causes the world around you to react. Enemies advance, traps trigger and situations evolve.

This transforms things into something closer to a turn-based puzzle, where movement must be carefully planned. A single jump or step forward could be the difference between safe passage and a sudden defeat.

Planning Every Step

Because of this mechanic, Stillbone constantly asks players to think ahead.

Levels are filled with traps, enemy patrols and environmental hazards that require precise timing and careful positioning. Standing still can often be the best option, giving players time to study the situation before committing to their next move.

The result is a gameplay style that blends classic platforming reflexes with puzzle-solving strategy, rewarding players who take their time to analyse each situation.

Another Clever Idea From 2dragontails?

Stillbone continues a productive run for developer 2dragontails, who have recently delivered several puzzle-focused indie titles to Xbox.

Just last week saw the release of Trigger Path, another clever puzzle experience that challenged players to think strategically about every move. Prior to that, King Slime in Cashtle tasked players with collecting lost tax coins in a quirky platform adventure.

With Stillbone, the developer once again proves their ability to take familiar gameplay concepts and give them a unique twist.

A Skeleton With A Strategy

Now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC for £4.19, Stillbone offers a refreshing take on platforming where patience and planning are just as important as quick reflexes. There are three versions too, so pick the one best suited to your gaming needs – Xbox Series X|S Optimised, for Xbox One, or a Windows PC drop.

It might feature a small skeleton hero, but the puzzles waiting inside its dungeons could prove quite the challenge.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
