Due to arrive on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5, Planet Coaster: Console Edition promises to let you unleash your vision from the comfort of your own living room. Today, as the second developer diary is released for the game, those behind the console edition are not just showing off the numerous ways for us to play, but detailing the announcement of the free next-gen upgrades which will be available.

Set to launch in Holiday 2020 with Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5 versions due, Planet Coaster: Console Edition will let your imagination run wild, as you create, manage, and share your best theme parks with the world.

With a host of super simple-to-use tools at your disposal – and hundreds of blueprints to cut down the difficult stuff – building your very own park will never be simpler. But then, once created Planet Coaster: Console Edition will also let you go as deep as you wish, setting food prices, hiring staff and sitting back watching thrillseekers react with delight will all be par for the course. From there, you’ll be able to share what you create, allowing the world to see the creations which have unfolded before you.

The latest developer diary shows an insight into this, giving a glimpse into the tutorials, the huge career, the micro-managing and more. The Sandbox mode is also detailed – no restrictions on cash, management or anything else for that matter. This will let your imagination run wild. And if you thought that was enough, you’d be wrong as Challenge Mode is also looked at.

You can find the full Dev Diary #2 – Ways to Play for Planet Coaster: Console Edition down below. Check it out and let us know your thoughts on whether Frontier Developments can hit their goals.

Further to all that though and confirmation of the free next generation upgrades have been announced. Those who purchase a digital copy of the game on Xbox One or PS4 will be able to download the optimised version free of charge when it becomes available. How? Just by logging in to your new console with the account you originally purchased the game on.

That doesn’t however mean that those who go physical will miss out. In order to download the optimised version at no extra cost when it becomes available, simply inserting the disc into your Xbox Series X or PS5 will see you sorted. Just note, next-gen upgrades are not available for physical versions of the game if you upgrade to Xbox Series S or PS5 Digital Edition.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
