Planet Zoo 2 – announced with an October 2026 release date

Planet Zoo 2 is officially on the way. And Frontier Developments has gone all-in on making this sequel feel bigger, more detailed and far more ambitious than the already excellent original.

Launching on October 13th 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, Planet Zoo 2 introduces long-requested aquatic and flying animals, while also pushing the conservation side of the game much further than before.

For anyone who spent countless hours perfecting habitats in the first game, this sequel will feel less like a small upgrade and more like a next-generation leap for the series.

At A Glance

  • Planet Zoo 2 launches October 13th 2026
  • Coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC
  • Aquatic animals and fully flying birds debut in the sequel
  • Fully customisable aquariums and aviaries included
  • New Wildlife Reserve conservation systems added
  • Deluxe Edition includes six additional animal species
  • Pre-orders include bonus cosmetic items and decorations

A Whole New Side To Zoo Building

The biggest addition this time around is easily the arrival of aquatic and flying species. Players will be able to build sprawling aquariums and detailed aviaries packed with animals that move and behave far more naturally than anything seen before in the series.

Aquariums are fully customisable habitats rather than simple decorative tanks, letting players create elaborate underwater environments complete with filtration systems and staff access areas. Frontier has already confirmed species including Black-Tipped Reef Sharks, Hawksbill Turtles and large shoals of fish.

The skies are getting just as much attention too. Aviaries will house fully flying birds such as the Toco Toucan and Secretary Bird, with guests even able to walk through certain enclosures for a much closer look at the wildlife.

Conservation Steps Into The Spotlight

Planet Zoo 2 also dips more into wildlife conservation and ecosystem restoration. Rather than simply building attractive zoo parks, players will now take part in global conservation projects, helping restore Wildlife Reserves and reintroduce animals back into natural habitats around the world.

That broader focus on animal wellbeing ties into the management side too. Staff morale, habitat authenticity, guest satisfaction and animal happiness all remain key parts of the experience, but Frontier is clearly aiming for a more meaningful simulation this time around.

And the animals themselves have received major upgrades as well, with improved animations, more authentic behaviours and far more lifelike movement systems.

Deluxe Edition And Pre-Order Bonuses Confirmed

Players who pre-order Planet Zoo 2 will receive a Bonus Content Pack featuring themed shop items, unique donation bins and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall for guests. Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition includes the base game alongside the Deluxe Upgrade Pack, adding six extra animal species and exclusive decorative signs.

Pricing has also been confirmed:

  • Standard Edition – ÂŁ39.99 / $49.99 / €49.99
  • Deluxe Edition – ÂŁ54.99 / $64.99 / €64.99

Frontier Looks Ready To Raise The Bar Again

The original Planet Zoo eventually made its way to console in impressive fashion, earning strong praise for just how deep and absorbing the management systems were. In our 4.5/5 review of Planet Zoo: Console Edition, we said: “Planet Zoo: Console Edition is Frontier Developments at their finest, creating the best zoo simulation game of all-time, and one of the best simulation games in general.”

With aquariums, aviaries and expanded conservation systems all arriving together, October suddenly feels very far away.
