Are you looking forward to setting sail on your maiden voyage with Port Royale 4? Today we not just see a confirmed release date put in place, but Kalypso Media have also confirmed the presence of a tasty looking beta.

Port Royale 4 has previously been confirmed for setting sail on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC in Q4 of 2020, but today a fully cemented launch date has become known, with September 25th 2020 being the day when we’ll be able to head out on a brand new 17th Century adventure.

In Port Royale 4 we will find ourselves joining a brand new colony, taking charge as the ambitious new governor about town. From there we’ll get to learn what it takes to build up from the smallest of settlements right though to a bustling city. Developing production chains, fighting for supremacy and keeping an eye out for pirates will all be part of a day’s work in Port Royale 4. As will naval battles which could well turn the tide and ensure you go home victorious.

Before that full September release date comes about though, would-be overseers can get involved with the latest Steam beta, obtainable via pre-ordering the game from the Kalypso Store. Running with a special discounted price, the Port Royale 4 beta offers an exclusive opportunity to go hands-on with the title for the very first time. The beta includes access to the tutorial, the full Spanish campaign and Free Mode, which will include four playable characters. As with the single player campaign, Spain will be the only playable nation in Free Mode.

There are a couple of options in terms of how you wish to be parted with your cash too – a Standard Edition, which includes the base game on release and full access to the closed beta, and an Extended Edition, which adds a digital soundtrack and exclusive in-game bonus content. Which you decide to plump for is totally up to you, but the way Port Royale 4 is shaping up, that latter option could well be a tempting one.

The beta will be available in English and German and also includes a survey for players to give their feedback and shape the beta.

Features of Port Royale 4 on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC include:

  • Choose from four colonial powerhouses: England, France, Spain and the Netherlands, each providing different benefits and unique gameplay styles.
  • Take on four extensive single player campaigns following each nation on their path to supremacy.
  • Appoint a leader for the adventure from four different character classes: The Explorer, the Merchant, the Buccaneer and the Pirate – each providing their own advantages and disadvantages.
  • Establish and manage trade with 60 Caribbean cities in a huge 3D game world. Steer clear of cliffs, shallow waters and stormy weather regions to optimize trade routes.
  • Select from 50 buildings, including 25 production sites, to produce goods like rum or luxuries. Construct town buildings with neighborhood effects to optimize productivity and manage the overall happiness of citizens.
  • 18 historically authentic ship types from the late 16th and 17th centuries.
  • Engage in tactical, turn-based naval battles with powerful captains.
  • Licenses, building permits, new buildings and ships can be unlocked by growing national reputation.

Will you be hitting the high seas come September? Does that beta period tempt you in even more? Let us know in the comments.
