If you like trains and you can spot one loco from another at 100 paces, then you’ll no doubt love Train Sim World. Well, there’s good news on the horizon, as Dovetail Games are preparing to push out a 2020 update – and you won’t have to wait too long to see it either.
Coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC on August 15th 2019, Train Sim World 2020 provides all Train Sim World fans the chance to take in a major update, and a whole new route collection for good measure.
The launch of Train Sim World 2020 will be found bringing new features to the game, including Journeys which highlight more than 100 hours of authentic train simulation goodness from across the UK, USA and Germany. But further to that will be a new collection of high quality routes with three of the best and more challenging from the last year included – Main-Spessart Bahn, Northern Trans-Pennine and Long Island Rail Road.
No matter whether you are a veteran to the scene, or a green newbie looking to understand the way of life on the railways, all players will receive a free new major update to their Train Sim World experience that includes a fully reworked scoring system – ‘Action Points’ – that rewards you for completing objectives, and driving with accurate timing. It’ll also record your best performance for each route scenario and service.
This means that the update will also show detailed debrief results for each scenario and more intuitive tutorials to help you identify ways to improve. In addition, route progress tracking highlights hundreds of services and railway jobs available for you to complete as you learn the routes.

In fact, it could well be said that with Train Sim World 2020, you’ll never be closer to mastering the way of the rails.
Key features include:
- The new ‘Journey’ system blends together more than 24 hours of sequential gameplay for each route. Start a Journey on any route and enjoy hundreds of scenarios, service timetables, and jobs to complete around the railway.
- Improved tutorials and scoring will teach new players all they need to master the rails – and even old hands might find something new to learn in the new scoring and detailed analysis of every completed scenario.
- A new collection of content – either as a way for new players to dive right in, or existing players to expand their collection. From the busy commuter experience of Long Island to a nostalgic industrial route through the Pennines and the steep inclines of Main-Spessart Bahn – there’s more to do than ever before!
- A brand-new USA west coast route will also be available to buy individually or as part of a special Digital Deluxe Edition.
We’ll be sure to let you know when August 15th rolls around and you can get access to the next update in the land of Train Sim World. For now though, make sure you check out our full review of the state of play in the current game, and then hit up that announcement trailer for the 2020 update below.
