ION FURY AFTERSHOCK – now on console

Just when you thought Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison’s explosive rampage was over, the battle rages on with a vengeance!

The highly anticipated Ion Fury: Aftershock expansion, the electrifying continuation of the cult-hit retro FPS, is finally here.

Yep, developer 3D Realms Entertainment and publisher Fulqrum Publishing are unleashing this massive content drop across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, with full compatibility for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

After delighting PC players with its October 2023 release, Aftershock now brings Shelly’s high-octane adventure to living rooms worldwide, complete with console-optimised controls and enhanced gamepad integration.

Ignite the Fury: An Uncharted Continuation

Priced at £13.24, Ion Fury: Aftershock plunges players back into the pixel-perfect world just moments after Shelly’s previous victory. Her celebration is cut short by explosions as the vengeful Dr. Heskel escapes in a monstrous flying machine.

Armed with her signature Loverboy revolver and commandeering a heavily weaponised Roadripper hoverbike, Shelly embarks on her most dangerous mission yet.

This gripping new campaign takes you through 15 freshly-designed levels spread across five distinct zones. You’ll traverse uncharted territories teeming with Heskel’s new lineup of augmented monstrosities itching for a fight. To combat these fresh faces of evil, you’ll enhance your firepower with new weapons and tools, including the devastating Cluster Shot launcher.

Experience high-speed, white-knuckle vehicular combat as you take to the skies in a rotorcycle – a first for Ion Fury! The revolutionary high-speed vehicle combat has been specifically optimized for console controllers, featuring refined handling mechanics and enhanced visual feedback for smooth gameplay.

More Ways to Play

Aftershock isn’t just about the new campaign. It also introduces:

  • Angel of Death Difficulty: Push your limits with this grueling new challenge level.
  • Arrange Mode: A complete remix of the original 2019 Ion Fury campaign, featuring mirrored levels, modified enemy placements, and integrated Aftershock content throughout all 28 levels. This is a fantastic way to re-experience the classic game with a fresh perspective.
  • Packed with Content: Overall, you’ll engage in a total of 43 additional levels of sheer mayhem, offering immense replayability.

A Classic Homage, Fully Evolved

Ion Fury has always been more than just a retro-styled homage; it’s a game that reminded us what a first-person shooter “still ought to be.” In our review of the original base game, we said:

Ion Fury on Xbox One is more than just a retro-styled homage to a bygone era of the FPS genre, it in fact belongs in the gaming landscape of 2020 just as much as the next Halo or Call of Duty. Hardly a mere throwback, it is a reminder and wake-up call for the genre, especially when it comes to authentic and engaging level design. Ion Fury isn’t just what a FPS used to be, it’s what a FPS still ought to be.

The release of Aftershock, after an “extremely delayed” journey to consoles, proves that sentiment is still true. It’s a game that embraces its ’90s Build Engine excellence while incorporating modern design sensibilities and console optimizations for stable performance across all platforms.

The city cries out for a hero, and Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison is ready to deliver. With greater evils, trickier levels, and an even more relentless Dr. Heskel, Ion Fury: Aftershock is a must-play for fans of explosive, old-school FPS action.

Get ready to face the Fury all over again!

Just head to the usual digital storefronts and grab the expansion now. We’ll point you to the Xbox Store. Of course, you’ll need the base game in your library.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
