The Tokyo Game Show is well underway and with it comes the announcement of an exciting new project from Capcom – that of Project Resistance. And if the standard knowledge that Capcom is working on something big isn’t enough to gather interest, the fact that this will be set in the Resident Evil universe should!
A new type of survival horror, Project Resistance – that’s the working title, btw – will thrust us back into the Resi Evil universe once more when it provides asymmetric online five-person multiplayer action, combining both cooperative and competitive dynamics. Project Resistance will see the the opportunity for players to create their very own survival horror experience, with four members working together to escape an insidious experiment and outsmart the twisted Mastermind behind the scenes.
Coming from Capcom and developed in partnership with NeoBards Entertainment, Project Resistance will utilise the proprietary RE Engine that is already well known for high quality gameplay and remarkable visual fidelity – after all, it powered the likes of Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 – and will release on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam.
Your time with Project Resistance will be found in 4v1 match-ups, as one Mastermind player tracks the four Survivors through a network of security cameras, staying one step ahead at every turn to prevent their escape. The Mastermind will have the opportunity to plot a deadly course by wielding a strategic deck of cards to create dangerous obstacles for the Survivors, such as summoning vicious creatures, setting traps, manipulating the environment, and weaponizing security cameras. And it is that Mastermind who can also directly control zombies in play, while also stepping into the trench coat of the towering, deadly Tyrant for the first time in franchise history.
While all this is going on the Survivors must cooperatively work together as a team to fend off the Mastermind’s attacks and complete puzzle style mission objectives to escape the map before time runs out. Each Survivor will possess their own unique skills to help their team overcome the Mastermind’s challenges and survive the sinister experiment.
We will of course keep you up-to-date with how things progress with Project Resistance but should you wish to get hands-on with a special early access opportunity to playtest this game, then Xbox Insider Program members and RE Ambassadors will be eligible for a chance to participate in the Project Resistance closed beta on Xbox One and PS4. This closed beta will run from October 4th through till October 7th with registration open right now until September 18th. Just head on over to https://www.project-resistance.com/en/.
Looking forward to this coming out, hopefully it will have more depth than evolve did, being that it’s set in RE universe and has more for the persuer to do than “attack”, with those being pursued being able to do more to evade and survive. Hopefully the beta goes well!
