Projection: First Light to bring puzzle platforming shadow puppetry to Xbox One, PS4 and Switch in early 2018

-

Have you ever wanted to control orbs of light whilst navigating a papercraft world? Of course you have – and that’s exactly what you’ll be doing when Projection: First Light comes to Xbox One.

Announced today for a Q2 2018 release, Projection: First Light is a puzzle platformer from Shadowplay Studios and Blowfish Studios. Placing you in the shoes of Greta, a young girl, it is up to you to help her traverse a world full of shadow puppetry as her journey takes her on a road of self-discovery and cultural awareness. You’ll find yourself control strange orbs of light as you encounter Indonesian, Chinese, Turkish, Grecian, and British styles of puppetry, all as Greta discovers a vast world of art and culture.

You’ll be able to manipulate these orbs which will in turn see shadows becoming platforms and walls, whilst you try to create imaginative solutions to any puzzle that may lay ahead. Enemies will be dispersed too, as Projection: First Light begins to explore themes of worldliness, respect and understanding.

To ensure accuracy and beauty in the art of shadow puppetry, Shadowplay Studios consulted with Richard Bradshaw, a renowned Australian puppeteer and historian of his craft, whose insights helped Shadowplay Studios highlight the cultures behind shadow puppets through the ages.

“The idea behind Projection: First Light went off like a lightbulb in my head when I recalled playing with shadows on a wall as a child,” said Michael Chu, Founder, Shadowplay Studios. “After toying with light manipulation at a game jam, we discovered the concept had a number of wonderful gameplay applications, which we hope to share with the gaming community along with the rich art and history behind shadow puppetry when Projection: First Light releases early next year.”

You’ll find the game coming to Xbox One, PS4, and Nntendo Switch alongside the previously announced PC/Mac versions.
