Should you be looking for a new team-based sports title, there are a host of great gaming opportunities available to you. But what if that game has to bring in a bit of a brawl for good measure? Well, you’re pretty much limited to KungFu Kickball.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS4 and Nintendo Switch – as well as on PC via Steam where it’s been for a little while – KungFu Kickball from WhaleFood Games and Blowfish Studios will have you attempting to kick, punch and headbutt your way to glory – and this one’s not all in the mind.

Priced at £12.99 from the Xbox Store and available at a similar price on PlayStation and the Nintendo eShop, KungFu Kickball throws you and your mates into a bit of a fantasy sports mash-up, one that is found to mix good old football with the joy of the best kung fu action films.

What this means is that to succeed in KungFu Kickball you’ll need to harness the finest kung fu moves, working the mystical arts in order to take control of the game, of your opponent, and of the ball. Smashing that ball into a courtside bell will see you gather up points, with those who have obtained the most rings in a set period of time crowned the winner.

There’s much going on in KungFu Kickball, with a single player championship complemented neatly by 1v1 and 2v2 online match-ups. There’s local play as well, along with a variety of stage types and characters – each of which come with their own unique skillset.

The full key features you need to know include:

  • 1v1 and 2v2 Online Multiplayer Matches – Play locally and online with your friends or fight random players in a quickmatch.
  • Quick to learn, Hard to master – While there’s only three buttons to keep track of, there are a whole host of moves that can be pulled off with different combinations.
  • Six Unique Stages – Battle it out on six detailed stages, featuring environmental challenges and challenging level designs to make each stage feel different and fun.
  • Six Different Characters – Choose to play from a roster of six beautifully crafted pixel art characters: The Monk – A well rounded option; The Assassin – Super quick but doesn’t hit as hard; The Drunken Boxer – Has his own unique fighting style; The Old Master – Slower in his old age, but still packs an incredible punch; The Legend – Nimble and can still send the ball flying with his kicks; The Panda – She’s a true heavy hitter

We’ve been hitting the KungFu Kickball courts for a few weeks now, and you can read our full thoughts as to how this mashed-up sport plays out by checking out our full review of KungFu Kickball on Xbox. It’s well worth a read.

From there, head to the digital store of your choice – the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store, the Nintendo eShop or Steam page.

Game Description:

Compete against your friends in a fantasy sport that mixes soccer with kung fu action movies. Fly through the air and unleash a flurry of punches, kicks, and mystical arts to overpower the other team and smash the ball into their bell. Every bell ring counts as a point and the team with the most points when time runs out is crowned the winner. Hone your skills in the single-player championship modes against increasingly difficult AI, then duke it out with friends in either local multiplayer or online multiplayer in versus or quickmatch modes.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
