Quake now enhanced, utilising the power of Xbox One, Series X|S and Game Pass

It’s been 25 years since Quake first burst onto the scene, but here and now in 2021 the iconic first person shooter has been updated and visually enhanced on PC and console, making the most of Xbox Game Pass in the process.

Quake really does need no introduction but in case you are one of the few out there who have never heard of the classic, we highly advise you to check out our full article that looks back at the power of Quake, when it first released in 1996.

Once you’re up to speed, it’ll probably be best for you to head to your favourite digital store and to grab a download of that same game, now lovingly enhanced and updated by the Bethesda and id Software squads.

It’s the Xbox Store which is pretty much our second home and by taking a trip there you’ll find Quake fully playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass, with Smart Delivery pushing out the very finest version of the game for your console. It’s priced at £7.99 if you don’t have Game Pass.

So what do we get by involving ourselves in the quarter centre icon? Well, the original game now comes with up to 4K support, widescreen resolution, enhanced modelling and some tasty lighting. It’ll let you play through the full campaign, one in which you battle against the evil forces of the darkest dimensions, blasting your way to survival.

But Quake in 2021 brings more and not only are the original expansion packs included – The Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity – but two newbies from the MachineGames team are also present – they being Dimension of the Past,”and the all-new Dimension of the Machine. It’s the latter of these which will take you into the deepest darkest depths of The Machine.

This enhanced version gets better still though when you consider the fact that you’ll also be able to play through things with some mate, in 4-player online or local split-screen cooperative play, or the pure combat of 8-player online or 4-player local matchups. Throw in free mods and missions, some crossplay support and the power to play Quake on xCloud via the likes of the Razer Kishi, and well, this is about as good as you can expect things to get.  In all, the features sit as follows…

Let us know your thoughts once you’ve spent a bit of time with Quake on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.

Game Description:

Developed by the award-winning id Software, Quake® is the ground-breaking, original dark fantasy first-person shooter that inspires today’s retro-style FPS games. Now, experience the authentic, updated, and visually enhanced version of the original.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
