QUByte have been found pushing out a few ‘Classic by PIKO’ titles to the Xbox, PlayStation and Switch storefronts in recent months. Today it’s the turn of Thunderbolt Collection to expand our gaming horizons.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, as well as PS4, PS5 and Switch, is QUByte Classics: Thunderbolt Collection by PIKO. This is the latest ‘…by PIKO’ game to come from the QUByte team, following on from the likes of The Immortal by PIKO, The Humans by PIKO, Jim Power: The Lost Dimensions by PIKO and the most recent Zero Tolerance Collection by PIKO.

What you’re getting here is a game that first came to the fore many moons ago, in the case of Thunderbolt Collection, a couple of Thunderbolt titles from 1995.

These come to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with QUByte bundling both the 8-bit and 16-bit versions of the game as one, complete with some English localisation support, controller remapping to ensure it works in this modern era and the chance to get in on some game saving. There are various screen filters and display options too.

Whatever the new features, the Thunderbolt Collection boils down to one thing – destroy anything that gets in your way, working a fast-moving, vertically-scrolling shoot ’em up experience. The usual SHMUP elements apply too – upgrades aplenty, weapons galore and the chance to try and lead humanity to safety.

If you’re sold on QUByte Classics: Thunderbolt Collection by PIKO then you’ll want to head to the Xbox Store and take home the Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S download. The price of £6.69 pretty much makes this a bit of a no-brainer – particularly if you’re a fan of the genre. You’ll find it on those other formats too.

Expect a review from us soon.

Game Description:

Your goal is simple: destroy all the enemies that will come until you reach the final boss of the stage, make it easier and faster as you collect items and power-ups to enhance your health bar, increase your speed and upgrade or acquire new weapons. You’ll lead humanity to survival. Thunderbolt Collection is a compilation of two vertically-scrolling shoot ‘em ups from the series Thunderbolt released in 1995 exclusive on east. The QUByte port brings the 8-bit and 16-bit versions of the game, both with official English localization and new features to improve your experience like: control remapping, which allow players to customize controller buttons as they like it better, different screen types and save states.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
