Songs of Conquest Vanir
Songs of Conquest Vanir – available now.

The world of Songs of Conquest on console just got a whole lot wilder with the introduction of the Vanir expansion.

This is the first new faction for the acclaimed turn-based strategy RPG, and it is available now on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation.

Priced at £9.99, this DLC introduces the fierce Vanir, raiders from the Bleak East who can transform into powerful Vildra creatures, adding a whole new dimension to the game’s strategic combat. Remember, that you’ll need a copy of the base game to play.

The Vanir are descendants of Baryan debtors and Arleon settlers, hardened by the harsh environment and forced to embrace the power of the monstrous Vildra to survive. This expansion lets you command these mighty warriors, choosing whether to keep them in their human form or unleash their bestial transformations.

Unleash the Vildra: Transform Your Units in Battle

The Vanir faction introduces a unique transformation mechanic. Key units can shapeshift into powerful Vildra creatures, changing their abilities and roles on the battlefield:

  • Huskarl to Korphan: Transform your spearmen into flying creatures that can leap into the enemy’s backlines.
  • Berserkir to Bear: Unleash your Berserkir’s rage, transforming them into mighty bears that can challenge any foe.
  • Chieftain to Jormr: Watch your Chieftain grow to enormous proportions, becoming a mythical Jormr.
  • Serimnaan: A unique, ever-living Swine that can be eaten and then regenerates.
  • Vildra allies: Recruit unique creatures such as Troll, Lykt, Bacahorse and Nornor

This dynamic transformation system adds a new layer of tactical depth to Songs of Conquest, forcing you to consider not only your units’ current abilities but also their potential transformations.

New Biome, New Maps, New Challenges

The Vanir expansion also introduces the Bleak East biome – a harsh landscape of snow, ice, and forests. You’ll find new places to explore, caverns to plunder, and riches to be had.

The DLC includes five new Conquest maps specifically designed for the Vanir faction: two small, two medium, and one large. These maps challenge you to defend your homeland, raid your enemies, or conquer new territories.

Additionally, two new Challenge maps will test your skills with the Vanir, focusing on specific scenarios and strategic puzzles.

Key Features of the Vanir Expansion

  • New Vanir Faction: Command raiders who can transform into powerful Vildra creatures.
  • Unique Transformation Mechanic: Change your units’ forms and abilities in battle.
  • Bleak East Biome: Explore a new, harsh environment.
  • Five New Conquest Maps: Designed specifically for the Vanir faction.
  • Two New Challenge Maps: Test your skills with specific scenarios.

What is Songs of Conquest?

For those new to the game, Songs of Conquest is a turn-based strategy RPG inspired by classic ’90s titles. You control powerful magicians called Wielders, explore a vast world, build up your kingdom, and engage in tactical battles.

The game blends kingdom management, exploration, and a deep combat system that utilises troop abilities and magic. You can play solo, co-op, or in multiplayer (local hotseat or online). The base game features four factions: Arleon (knights), Rana (tribes), Loth (necromancers), and Barya (mercenaries).

Embrace the Wild Side

If you’re a Songs of Conquest player looking for a new challenge, or if you’re a strategy fan intrigued by the unique transformation mechanic, the Vanir expansion should be on your radar.

It’s available now on the Xbox Store (and other platform stores) for £9.99. Prepare to unleash the fury of the Vildra and conquer the world of Aerbor.

Songs of Conquest – Vanir Description

Songs of Conquest’s first new faction has arrived from the shores of the Bleak East. Conquer the lands of Aerbor as the mighty raiders of Vanir and witness their powerful transformation into the Vildra. Carve a path through the snow in five new challenging Conquest maps as you command new powerful Wielders such as the shapeshifted Gorm Aelgrim or Jarn Steadfast, the one who refused to Change. Owning the DLC does not exclude you from playing against others online, even if they don’t own the DLC, or vice versa.
