Graveyard Keeper 2 – out now!

Graveyard Keeper 2 is here, and running a graveyard has somehow become the easy part.

Now you’re the Grand Inquisitor, there’s a zombie apocalypse to deal with, a medieval town in need of rebuilding and an undead workforce waiting to get their hands dirty. Available for ÂŁ20.99 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with the sequel also launching on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC, it’s time to get back to work – quite literally.

Published by tinyBuild and developed by Lazy Bear Games, Graveyard Keeper 2 expands the darkly comic management formula of its predecessor with bigger ambitions and considerably more corpses.

Your Graveyard Just Got A Lot Busier

The sequel once again puts you in charge of a medieval graveyard, but there’s considerably more going on beyond the cemetery gates.

You’ll gather flora, fauna and human remains, turning resources such as hearts, bones, brains and skin into machinery and useful production systems. Your undead minions can then take care of much of the heavy lifting, allowing you to automate your operation and concentrate on making the whole thing as profitable as possible.

It’s a twisted take on automation. But why hire ordinary workers when you can simply raise the dead?

There’s A Kingdom To Save

Graveyard Keeper 2 isn’t content with letting you quietly optimise your cemetery. You’re also the Grand Inquisitor, which means taking an undead army into battle against the forces threatening the kingdom. Build towers and fortifications, craft weapons and armour, then train and equip your not-so-bright troops before sending them into battle.

Away from the fighting, there’s a whole town to rebuild. Quests take you across the city, while your zombie workforce can get on with various jobs behind the scenes. You can also farm, look after livestock, fish, trade, customise your character and explore the surrounding locations.

And knowing the original Graveyard Keeper, there’s every chance you’ll start doing one job and end up spending the next few hours doing something completely different.

Bigger, Stranger And Still Very Graveyard Keeper

We scored Graveyard Keeper: Last Journey Edition 4.5/5 back in 2023, praising its addictive gameplay and the way its systems could quickly pull you away from whatever you originally intended to do. We also noted that once you got beyond its tricky opening hours, it became something rather special.

Graveyard Keeper 2 looks to build on that same wonderfully chaotic formula, adding zombie automation, town rebuilding and full-scale undead warfare to the mix.

The sequel is now available for ÂŁ20.99 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (Xbox Store), alongside PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC. You won’t find it on Game Pass at launch though.

So, if you’ve ever wondered what happens when graveyard management becomes a military-industrial operation, Lazy Bear Games appears to have the answer. And yes, it involves zombies. Lots of ’em.
