Rayland is the latest tricky puzzler to arrive on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

There’s something so inherently beautiful about a simple to pick-up, tricky to master puzzler. In recent times, this genre has been blessed with titles such as SiNKR and the equally fiendish SiNKR 2, as well as Deja Vu – and they were all 2020 releases alone! Now, Rayland is here to steal the day, courtesy of eastasiasoft and some clever lightbeam-based challenges.

Debuting on PC towards the end of last year, Rayland is today arriving on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC. The aim is simple – guide a beam of light around an isometric map in order to supply power to the desparate inhabitants of Rayland, by positioning a ‘Reflectus’ device, and rotating it accordingly. The chances are you’ve seen it all before, and there is very little to add – it’s just good ol’ puzzling at its best!

Where Rayland gets particularly punishing can be when you are intersecting multiple rays to divert their path, ensuring that they all eventually reach their necessary position on the grid – surely nobody will blame you if you must resort to a guide at this point.

Further features of the game include:

  • Use the resources of each level to make the reflected rays reach the Domus.
  • Use the intersection of the rays to generate a new radius for them.
  • Use the mouse to move and rotate the Reflectus
  • Use the passages between blocks to pass the lasers.

On hot summer days, with a cool fizzy drink in hand, there is nothing better to suit the mood than a quick puzzle or two, and Rayland will most definitely satisfy. The Xbox Store will be your first port of call for those on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, where you can pick up a copy for £4.19. The game is also available on PS5, PS4, Switch and PC.

Stay tuned for our review thoughts.

Game Description:

Redirect the course of a light beam across tricky isometric puzzle stages! The inhabitants of Rayland use the energy from the Domus to survive, and to transport this energy they use a Reflectus, a type of equipment that reflects the rays to other Domus. Your mission is to help the inhabitants of Rayland to transport the energy of the Domus through the various lands contained in the path. For this, you must correctly position the Reflectus and rotate them so the energy rays reach the necessary Domus. Rayland features a variety of brain teasers about reflecting a beam of light around an isometric playfield from one point to another. The emitter and receiver are stationary, and it’s your task to reposition mirror-like reflector panels to direct the course of the beam. Gameplay is simple, but the challenge is increasingly high. Do you have what it takes to clear them all?

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
