Dragon Ruins II – out now

The next chapter in the dungeon crawler RPG series has arrived, but it faces a difficult quest of its own: living up to the promise of the genre after its predecessor failed to excite.

Dragon Ruins II has launched. From Graverobber Foundation and KEMCO, it is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC for ÂŁ12.49.

It’s time to find out if this sequel can fix the flaws of the original and prove that classic dungeon-crawling can still be fun.

A Franchise Fighting for its Life

We have a long and complicated history with KEMCO’s retro-style releases, and the original Dragon Ruins was unfortunately one of the lowest points.

In our 1.5/5 review of Dragon Ruins, we concluded that the game had a core problem:

It is boring, and struggles massively visually, and there’s a reason we left games like this in the past – they just aren’t fun.

This makes the launch of Dragon Ruins II a fascinating case study. The pressure is on the sequel to blend its retro aesthetic with genuinely compelling gameplay that makes the experience engaging and interesting, rather than just tedious. We will, of course, find out how it fares in full review soon.

Strategic Exploration and Auto Battles

Dragon Ruins II is a classic dungeon crawler RPG, where you grow stronger while exploring 15 different dungeons.

Success hinges on your strategic planning. You must choose four members from a massive roster of 21 classes, which includes classics like Fighter and Ranger. You’ll need to strategically form your party, making sure you have the right mix of skills and abilities to gain the upper hand against increasingly powerful foes and bosses.

Your adventure begins in the capital city of Isigwere, where you’ll take on a wide range of quests – from small requests by townsfolk to the queen’s grand command to defeat the dragon that awakened in the underground ruins.

The combat is designed around auto battles, but you’ll need to use new equipment and skills to gain the advantage in these replayable runs.

Watch the adventure unfold in the official launch trailer…

Your Journey, Anywhere

Dragon Ruins II is a full Xbox Play Anywhere title. This fantastic feature means your heroic quest can continue, no matter which device you’re on. A single digital purchase on the Xbox Store for ÂŁ12.49 unlocks the game for you on both your Xbox console and your Windows PC. Hell, it is playable on your ROG Ally if you need to too. All of your quest progress and hero levels are synced via the cloud.

Your Hero’s Quest Log

Here is a summary of what to expect from this dungeon crawler RPG:

  • A Dungeon Crawler RPG where you explore 15 unique dungeons.
  • Team Building: Choose 4 members from 21 classes (Fighter, Ranger, etc.) to form your party.
  • Quests and Progression: Accept quests, hunt for treasure, and power up through auto battles.
  • Replayable Runs: Take on increasingly powerful foes and bosses.
  • Full Xbox Play Anywhere Support.

The dragon has awakened, and a legend needs to be forged.

If you’re a fan of classic dungeon crawlers and are ready to see if this new entry can prove its worth, Dragon Ruins II is ready for your party on the Xbox Store right now, playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It’s on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop too.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
